I understand how the law affects people in the real world. My whole legal career has been dedicated to representing regular Montanans, against powerful interests or just people who are out to cause harm. I will bring this same attitude towards Congress. I know how to fight and play hardball; this is what we need right now.
Healthcare, agriculture, ending the war in Iran, income inequality, affordability, housing, national debt, immigration reform, money in politics, climate change, and corrpution in government. These are the big ones. Well, one of the first things I am going to do is introduce articles of impeachment against Donald J. Trump for war crimes committed against the People of Iran. We have to do this so that we can show the world that We the People do not want endless wars. If we can't get Trump out of office, then we need to play hardball with the Trump administration to bring them under control. We have to make major reforms to our economic and healthcare systems. We need to put the globalist billionaires in their place.
We need to take some emergency measures to stabilize and support wage growth at the lower end. I am in favor of making sure the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share of taxes (currently corporate taxes only constitute 10% of federal receipts). We need to use that money to get annual deficit spending under control (it cannot exceed 3%), and also to do things to help those folks at the lower end to get through the affordability crisis. Half of all income earners in the U.S. only hold about 4% of the National Net Worth, so we need to make some economic shifts. I really like the idea of wage subsidies, and I am also interested in exploring the idea of a universal basic income. I would like to free up the states to experiment.
Elections need to be controlled locally. The federal government cannot be allowed to Nationalize elections, and jeopardize our right to vote. That is what Congress is trying to do with the SAVE Act; basically, they want to rig the system and purge the voter rolls. We cannot let that happen. As long as we have state and local control, then we will have a good chance at keeping out elections secure. Unfortunately, we just saw the US Supreme Court destroy the Voting Rights Act, so that is going to have a bad impact on minority voters. It is unfortunate that this is happening right now and that the US Supreme Court is going backwards on this issue. A lot of people are attacking the right to vote right now; we have to hold the line!
