They also have jurisdiction over some types of civil cases (e.g., landlord/tenant and contracts) in which the amount sought is less than $10,000. Term: Four years; no term limits.

GIAN ALEXANDER ROSSARIO
(Dem)
If elected, what will you do to decrease the backlog of court cases?
What improvements, if any, are needed in the Magistrate Courts?
What skills and knowledge do you bring to the position?
Fortunately, in the Magistrate Court, there is no backlog of cases. This is a credit to our Court Manager and our outstanding staff.
I believe our Magistrate Court does an excellent job of adjudicating cases expeditiously, and treating our citizens fairly.
It has been my utmost privilege to serve in this role for eight years. During that time, I have served as the Presiding Judge for our DWI Treatment Court, where we help those convicted of all levels of DWI enter and remain in a life in recovery through treatment. I am also honored to be the Lead Judge of the first Competency Diversion Program Court in the state, where we use treatment to divert individuals living with mental illness or co-occurring disorders out of the criminal justice system.
