Dona Ana County Magistrate Judge Division 1

Magistrates are judges in limited jurisdiction courts. They hold the initial hearings in many types of serious criminal cases, and try criminal cases, including many first-time DUI/DWI and other misdemeanor cases which carry relatively less serious penalties. They also have jurisdiction over some types of civil cases (e.g., landlord/tenant and contracts) in which the amount sought is less than $10,000. Term: Four years; no term limits.

I manage my docket efficiently and proactively. No case goes unattended. I work closely with all parties to move matters forward and ensure each case reaches a just result as quickly as the circumstances allow.
Access to case information needs improvement. Too many parties can’t quickly access details about cases they’re involved in or interested in. Litigants should be able to view documents without waiting on mail, visiting the courthouse, or filing formal records requests. Our court should modernize and function more like a metropolitan court than current magistrate model, specifically for our State’s second most populous county.
I’ve worked in the criminal justice system since 2011, serving in roles from intern to judge. As an attorney, I practiced with energy and precision. As a judge, I manage my docket efficiently while ensuring fairness. I hold high standards in my courtroom, while treating everyone with the respect and attention to detail our County’s residents deserve.
