Arlington Independent School District Trustee, Place 7
Trustees are elected to specific positions but represent their entire independent school district and have the following responsibilities mandated by State and Federal laws: select and employ the superintendent, manage public schools, establish operating policies, monitor expenses, adopt and approve a budget, and adopt employment policies. Additionally, they have the authority to set tax rates, levy and collect taxes, buy and sell property, exercise eminent domain, accept donations, charge fees, and call bond elections. Trustees elect their own officers: President or Chair, (Vice president or vice chair), Secretary and Treasurer.

Occupation
Semi-retired Government Contract Consultant
I have a BBA from Texas Wesleyan University in International Business Management and an Master of Arts from U.T. - Dallas in International Management Studies. I also have 40 years of experience in Financial and Operations Audit Management; mostly with Lockheed Martin
I am running because in the AISD, we are experiencing declining enrollment, too many failing schools, low teacher morale and a burgeoning budget. My background in audit prepares me to take a business-oriented approach to defining problems and opportunities, performing root cause analysis and improving operational and financial processes.
Do not want ICE anywhere near our school campuses....
Transparency is required in all of our processes and is enabled through a "Say what we do; do what we say" approach to process management. This board will be required to make difficult decisions. The decisions themselves should be communicated for public input along with pros/cons of each decision variable.
There are certain subjects best taught at the family dining table and not in the classroom. My guidelines would focus on selecting materials that serve to teach reading, writing, arithmetic, civics and the arts along with classic literature in our schools.
Failing schools - Incentivize the best teachers and administrators to take on the challenge of educating children by teaching them how to think and not worried about the STAAR test.
Low Morale - Adopt and implement a zero tolerance policy for classroom disruptions and ensure that Teachers are solely focused on teaching; not handling discipline issues.
Out of Control Budget - Adopt a zero based budgeting approach on a recurring basis that focuses on whether programs are meeting student needs.
