City of Arlington Councilmember, District #4

City councils in Texas each have specific responsibilities unique to their city. Duties of a city council generally include setting the tax rate, approving a budget, adopting local ordinances, and managing land transactions. City councils plan and oversee public services and facilities: police and fire protection; health and sanitation services; animal control; street construction and maintenance; garbage collection and disposal; transportation systems; recreational facilities; parking; airports; jails; parks and zoos; libraries and museums; hospitals and emergency services; building codes/zoning; and water and sewage service. City council members may also elect other municipal officers or appoint citizens to serve on boards and commissions.

Education: BS Biology, ULM. Experience: Five years on P&Z and CIPAC. Past President of The Optimist Club of Arlington and The Rotary Club of Arlington. On boards of both organizations’ charities. I was also on the board of the national Craft & Hobby Assoc., Mr Handyman Franchise Advisory Council and President's Circle. Arlington Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Team.
I’m retired, I’m healthy, planning to be around a long time and I want to continue giving back to my city. I’ve done a lot of volunteer work in Arlington and have spent the last five years on Arlington's Planning& Zoning commission and serving as its vice-chair. I have the endorsements of Former Mayors Richard Greene and Jeff Williams and current Mayor Jim Ross. They have seen my work in the city and know who they can trust and depend on to keep Arlington thriving.
Just as I have done in my past Planning and Zoning meetings, I will write articles on pertinent portions of the meeting and post them on social media. Prior to city Council meetings, I will remind my constituents of the meetings and suggest they watch them online or plan to watch the meeting videos afterward. Arlington is a very transparent city.
Because I was not privy to the executive sessions or the specific legal advice provided to the council, stating a hypothetical vote would be disingenuous. I respect the nuances that led to a split council vote and require that same level of deep-dive due diligence before I can supply an answer to this question. I have been talking with the mayor, council members and will talk with city legal counsel if they will meet with me. At some point I hope to be able to give you an answer.
It would depend on the partnership, but our police department is certainly not overstaffed, so I'm not sure where the manpower would come from. Our mayor and police chief have said this recently when asked by KERA.
My top three priorities are fully funding police, fire, and water departments to ensure public safety and reliable utility services. Maintaining these essential services is a core obligation, and by continuing financial planning and prioritizing efficiencies, I believe we can sustain them without needing to reduce funding for other municipal services or raising taxes. Also, management of build-out and redevelopment is a critical issue. Use of Form Based Code is a step in this process.

Occupation Instructor
I attended the University of Kansas and Wichita State University. I then attend DalFort Aviation School and earned my FAA Airframe and PowerPlant Licenses. Small business Owner/Instructor of a Training Academy
As a small business owner, I understand fiscal responsibility and the importance of balancing priorities without overburdening taxpayers. As a veteran spouse, I understand service and sacrifice. As a Security Professional, I value strong partnerships with law enforcement and the importance of safe neighborhoods. And as a youth mentor and community advocate, I’ve worked directly with families who simply want transparency, responsiveness, and respect from their city leadership.
Let's start by treating Citizen's comments as essential for decision-making. I will encourage the Council to increase the public speaking time limit to 3 minutes as it used to be. People shouldn't feel as if they are on a game show racing against the buzzer!

I'll be posting agenda items in plain English so that citizens don't feel like they need a lawyer to understand what's going on! Town hall meetings and community gatherings will be helpful.

I'll be responsive and proactive!
No one in Arlington should face discrimination. Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. But as city council members, we also have a duty to follow state and federal law. So my position is simple: stand firmly against discrimination, enforce the laws that already exist, and make sure anything the city passes is legally sound. Let's keep Arlington a welcoming and lawful community!!
Local Police are not Federal agents, so should not be tasked to do their job! Arlington PD is busy enough handling our local crime, accidents, and such. We can enforce the law and keep our community safe without compromising trust or overstepping the proper role of local government. However, if ICE issues a detain order against an individual already in Arlington's custody, we should comply.
My priorities are clear: safe streets, smart development that protects homeowners, responsible budgeting, and investments in infrastructure and parks that improve everyday quality of life. Improve staffing levels on both Police and Fire. Provide equipment and training. Invest in infrastructure. Expand our VIA rideshare program to improve the public transportation challenges. Work to provide SMART growth for the city that protects neighborhoods and attracts small and medium businesses.
