I have had the honor of serving the people of my district in the New Mexico Legislature, where I’ve built a track record of delivering real results for working families. My experience includes advancing policies that expand access to healthcare, support small businesses, and strengthen our workforce. I am most proud of the work I’ve led to make New Mexico a national leader in access to early childhood education. We now have an Early Childhood Trust Fund that can pay for childcare and early education in perpetuity. My commitment has always been to listen to constituents and ensure their voices are reflected in the decisions made at the Roundhouse.
My highest priorities are to educate families about our new free childcare program, increase economic stability and access to healthcare, and strengthen our public school system. To address these, I focus on passing targeted legislation, securing funding for critical programs, and working in partnership with local leaders and stakeholders.
Water is one of the most critical issues facing New Mexico, and we must take a proactive, long-term approach. This includes investing in water infrastructure, promoting conservation and reuse, and supporting regional collaboration to manage limited resources more effectively. We also need to ensure that our policies protect both agricultural users and growing communities, while incorporating science-based planning to address the impacts of climate change. Sustainable water management will require coordination across state agencies, local governments, and stakeholders to ensure we are protecting this resource for future generations.
When evaluating large economic development projects, we must ensure they provide clear and lasting benefits to our communities. This includes good-paying jobs, opportunities for local hiring, long-term economic sustainability, and protection of our climate and water.
We need to continue investing in healthcare workforce development to address provider shortages, particularly in rural and underserved areas. I was proud to support several telehealth bills, opening up doctors from out of state to help New Mexico patients, and a compromise on the state’s controversial Medical Malpractice bill, finally resolving a years-old impasse. Additionally, we must strengthen partnerships between the state, healthcare providers, and educational institutions to build a pipeline of local professionals who can serve their communities. Everyone deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare, and I remain committed to advancing policies that make that a reality.
