My policy priorities are, first, centered on pushing back on harmful policies sent from the Trump Administration that would seek to do damage to our state and local communities — and we've done just that — protecting healthcare, LGBTQ+ rights; making childcare, early childhood education, and college tuition free; and so much more. I am committed to strong environmental protections, ensuring clean air, land, and water, and holding polluters accountable. My focus has been on human rights and safety including gun safety, reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ protections, and immigrant safety. Finally, I aim to diversify New Mexico’s economy by supporting culturally rooted, environmentally responsible businesses that fit our state’s unique character.
I support stronger conservation, the Water Data Act, and collective action across communities and government. Smart data, responsible use, and collaboration will keep our rivers and aquifers healthy for generations. We must safeguard our watersheds and aquifers, and hold high-consumption industries (including data centers) accountable, as water is life. New Mexico recognizes water as a public trust; no corporate interest should override that. We must embrace a whole-systems approach: protecting our climate means protecting our water. Healthy forests, wetlands, and soils are our best drought insurance, so defending our ecosystems defends water for every New Mexican.
I would prioritize expanding state funding for local public projects to invest directly in our communities. We need to support locally driven initiatives that build the workforce of the future: integrating climate technology, quantum, biosciences, and emerging technologies that create great paying jobs and solve our problems. I'd focus investments in industries solving local challenges first, while making our biggest commitments to teachers, unions, grid buildout, clean energy electrification, and critically understaffed fields like healthcare. We should compensate people more to do the essential work we desperately need filled. Innovation and investment together ensure New Mexicans thrive in a rapidly changing economy and world.
Our state government should prioritize protecting New Mexicans from the harms of social media and AI, while ensuring these tools are used responsibly. I've sponsored chatbot safety (HB174 in 2026) and co-sponsored an AI safety plan (HB80 in 2025) to provide frameworks of protection and responsibility, but we must continue evaluating how regulation can promote safety, accountability, and innovation, thereby making these technologies work for our communities, not against them. Additionally, we can move our content to places where we agree with their values and policies. In doing so, I have taken direct action by no longer posting on X or Meta platforms, focusing instead on platforms like LinkedIn and Bluesky. Find us there!
