As Vice Chair of the House Appropriations and Finance Committee, I've played a direct role in shaping our state's budget and investing responsibly in New Mexico’s priorities. I believe we can make New Mexico a place where constituents feel safe and have economic opportunity to thrive—through clean energy, sustainable industries, and good-paying jobs. I'm not asking voters to take a chance; I'm asking them to reelect an effective legislator who has put in the work.
I believe effective policymaking is guided by data and shaped by those most impacted. My priorities are advancing New Mexico's clean energy economy by attracting investments and good-paying jobs; strategic funding for workforce development and career technical education; a comprehensive public safety approach balancing law enforcement support with behavioral health interventions; and expanding affordable healthcare access, especially in rural and underserved communities
Water security is one of New Mexico's defining challenges, requiring strategic long-term planning. We must invest in modernizing aging infrastructure, supporting acequia and tribal water systems, and advancing produced water treatment and desalination technologies. Data-driven climate planning is essential, as is collaboration between the state, tribal governments, and the agricultural community. Protecting our water future is inseparable from our economy and remains a top legislative priority for me.
Large economic development projects must produce tangible, lasting benefits for all New Mexicans. I have championed record investments in high-growth science and technology sectors, as well as the Site Readiness Act to ensure the availability of shovel-ready sites. Attracting large projects means we must invest in the grid, transmission, energy efficiency, and water technologies to meet growing demands. New Mexico can both be a climate leader and grow our economy.
Access to affordable, quality healthcare remains a a top priority. New Mexico faces a serious health care provider shortage, worsened by recent federal budget cuts. This session, I supported HB 99 to reform medical malpractice liability, and we passed SB 1 to streamline out-of-state physician licensing. Additionally, we must continue to invest in loan repayment programs, training, and residency programs that give doctors real reasons to build their careers here
