I have served in public office since the late 1960s, beginning with elected positions within the Ramah Navajo Chapter, including Chapter President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer. I also served on the Ramah Navajo School Board, Inc., holding leadership roles as President, Vice President, and Secretary-Treasurer. In addition, I served two terms as a Cibola County Commissioner.
These experiences have all been rooted in serving the best interests of the people who elected me. Throughout the years, I have often been asked to step into leadership roles because of my commitment to putting the needs of the people first and leading with integrity and dedication.
My highest priority is serving the constituents of District 6. With my background and experience, I am able to effectively understand and address the needs of our communities. I have been assigned to the Education Committee, where my experience in education has been a strong asset.
I also serve on the Rural Development, Land Grants, and Cultural Affairs Committee, which allows me to focus on issues that directly impact our region. In these roles, I am able to communicate effectively, advocate for our communities, and work toward solutions that support the people of District 6.
The legislature should work closely with individuals and communities who have direct experience managing water, especially during times of shortage. Their knowledge and practical solutions are essential in addressing both current and future water needs.
Across our state, people are already finding ways to manage water in different conditions and regions. By listening to these voices, supporting local solutions, and investing in sustainable water practices, the legislature can take a more informed and effective approach to securing our water future.
Economic development projects should align with the needs and priorities of the community and follow best practices to ensure long-term success. It is important to evaluate whether the project is a good fit for the area it is being proposed in.
Key considerations should include whether appropriate land is designated for development, utilities are available or can be supported, and transportation access to the site is adequate. These factors help ensure that projects are both practical and beneficial, while supporting sustainable economic growth for the region.
I represent District 6, which covers a large rural area where many residents must travel long distances to access health care. One important solution is expanding mobile health services that can reach people in their own communities and reduce those travel barriers.
We should also work to expand access to state-funded health care programs and ensure they are available to all who need them. By using every available resource and approach, we can improve access and make sure that residents across District 6 receive the care they deserve.
