I've been in law enforcement for 26 years. 24 of which have been with the Socorro Sheriff's office. I have over two thousand hours of advanced law enforcement training. I served as a Captain of the Sheriff's office for 7 years. I am currently the incumbent Sheriff of the Socorro Sheriff's office and have been so for over three years.
Being that I am the current Sheriff's, I would keep my already established administration. They are all experienced and take their duties seriously and professionally.
I would say that the funding to combat distribution of drug is an on going problem for the Sheriff's office and many other law enforcement agencies across our county. Also the revolving door laws in our state that allow criminals to get off of charges and out of jail, with little or no consequences.
I am currently working with other agencies such as the Sierra county Sheriff's office to come up with solutions and aquire grants and funding to remedy the lack of funds. Also I have been working closely with our senators and representatives to try to fix and propose laws that will hold offenders accountable.
Currently we receive several hours a year of dealing with mentally ill training. On top of that I have two in house instructors to teach deputies on skills to deal with persons afflicted with mental health issues.
