The County Sheriff’s duties include policing and preventing crime; apprehending and arresting suspects; preserving public peace; enforcing laws and ordinances; executing court orders and warrants; and cooperating with and assisting other law enforcement agencies. Term: Four years, limited to two consecutive terms.

I have been a New Mexico peace officer since 2002. I have held the positions of patrol man, patrol sergeant, investigator, lieutenant, and am the incumbent sheriff. I have thousands of hours of advanced train in various law enforcement subjects and have graduated the Northwestern University police staff and command training program.
I am the incumbent sheriff and plan to continue moving the agency forward, to better serve our constituents.
The most critical problem currently facing the Sierra County Sheriff's Office is funding for additional deputy positions and funding to maintain competitive pay and benefits for current employees.
I am currently working with county commissioners and county administrative staff, to find innovative ways to meet these needs. I am seeking grant funding and working within current budget boundaries to reallocate funding.
The state of New Mexico requires intensive training in this area for all law enforcement officers within the state. In addition I send our deputies to crisis intervention training, and negotiation training.
