A family-oriented and faith-based New Mexican with nearly 26 years of proven public safety experience serving as chief of police and commander at the state, county, city, and tribal levels. Professionalism, respect and integrity guide me. Master’s Degrees in Criminal Justice and Business Administration, along with the highest executive-level certification. Graduate of Northwestern University’s Public Safety Center, the Bureau of Indian Affairs Chief’s Command School, and the FBI Command Course.
Mental health, drug use, violent crime and building community trust are my highest priorities. Empathy combined with consistent enforcement will guide my efforts to improve public safety. I will build strong partnerships with legislators, community leaders, and you, the voter, to develop genuine solutions. Leading by example and providing competitive employee wages and benefits. Transparency and community engagement will be standard practices, not just election-year promises. We work for you!
Create a community policing division to improve public engagement. Create a mental health response team and first responder mental wellness program. Evaluate our current workforce and reassign certain personnel into the communities to better address issues you see. Enhance patrol division, drug/criminal investigations units and create a multi-agency missing persons task force. Cross commission all eligible police officers to include tribal. Create new districts in metro and east mountains.
As a certified police mental health instructor, mental health training is very important to me. Response to these situations require safety, empathy and compassion. The officer's safety and the safety of others is paramount. All officers are required to complete mental health training under their certification requirements. Active listening and reality based deescalation training will provide strategies that are important when interacting with individuals experiencing mental health issues.
