I have served the San Miguel County Sheriff's Office for 12 years, with 3 of those years a the Las Vegas Police Department. I currently hold the rank of Sergeant at the Sheriff's office and have been for 8 years. I currently have administrative duties with the Sheriff's office. As a Sergeant, I currently oversee daily patrol operations, DWI Patrols, Narcotics Investigations, Animal Services, and various day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office. I have completed numerous hours of advanced law enforcement training and have served in several specialized roles, including DWI Instructor, Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), Basic Law Enforcement Instructor, Domestic Violence Instructor, U.S. Marshals Service Task Force Officer, and Advanced SWAT.
I plan to build on the progress made at the Sheriff’s Office by securing additional funding to responsibly expand deputy and support staff positions. This will improve response times, increase coverage across the county, and reduce strain on current personnel. At the same time, I am committed to maintaining competitive wages to retain experienced deputies—saving taxpayer dollars by reducing turnover and training costs while ensuring consistent, high-quality public safety services.
One of the most critical challenges facing the Sheriff’s Office is recruiting and retaining qualified deputies to serve our rural communities.
I am committed to addressing this by improving staffing levels, supporting competitive wages, and creating a work environment that allows deputies to build long-term careers in our county.
I believe officers and deputies should receive comprehensive training to handle mental health and crisis situations. By investing in de-escalation techniques and crisis response training, we can reduce unnecessary use of force, improve outcomes for individuals in crisis, and better support our communities.
