I have served the residents of Curry County for almost 25 years while working at the Sheriff's Office, having started as a patrol deputy, I have held almost every position within the office, and have spent the last 10 years leading the office from within the command staff. I have a fundamental understanding of Sheriff's Office operations that can only be obtained through my many years of experience and diligent pursuit of leadership excellence. I have earned an associates degree in Criminal Justice from Clovis Community College and have received over 300 hours in advanced leadership training, including the New Mexico Law Enforcement Executive Program and the New Mexico Local Government Leadership Program.
I am proud to have Wesley Waller, former Curry County Sheriff, serve along side me as Undersheriff for Curry County. Wesley, a career lawman who has served with distinction, offers unwavering support and dedication to the residents of Curry County. His experience as a homicide investigator with New Mexico State Police provides our office with unparalleled investigative depth. Together, we will focus on administrative transparency and fostering a culture of accountability that ensures every resident of Curry County feels safe and heard."
The most critical issue we face is the recruitment and retention of qualified deputies. Law enforcement agencies nationwide are seeing significant shortages, and Curry County is not immune to these challenges. In addition to staffing, our community is grappling with the impact of illicit drug use and a concerning rise in juvenile crime.
I have collaborated with the county commission to add 3 School Resource Deputies to our rural schools. Beyond ensuring safety, these deputies build relationships that inspire students to pursue careers at the Sheriff’s Office. I plan to expand this by re-establishing a Law Enforcement Explorer program—the same program that sparked my own passion for this career as a teen. To combat the illegal drug trade, we are aggressively partnering with local and federal agencies in regional task forces. By sharing intelligence and resources, we can more effectively disrupt trafficking operations and reduce the flow of illicit drugs into Curry County.
I am proud of the extensive training our deputies receive from both experienced in-house instructors and subject matter experts. In addition to mandatory mental health training, our deputies complete a specialized 40-hour program taught by a Doctor with an expertise in law enforcement responses to mental health emergencies. Our office also recently acquired a virtual reality-based system, allowing deputies to regularly hone their de-escalation skills through life-like, immersive scenarios. This ensures we are prepared to handle every situation with professionalism and care.
