I believe I am qualified for this office because I bring both experience and continuity to the role. Having worked in the Assessor's Office for the past three and a half years., I have developed a strong understanding of property valuation, state statutes, and day-to-day operations that keep the office running both effectively and efficiently. I am committed to accuracy, transparency, and serving the public office with integrity and enthusiasm. This experience allows me to step into the role ready to lead from day one while continuing to improve services for our community.
My top priorities as County Assessor are promoting responsible growth in Otero County and ensuring consistent, fair property valuations for all taxpayers. Growth means supporting economic development while maintaining accurate and up-to-date property records that reflect our changing community. At the same time, consistency in valuations is critical to building public trust and ensuring equity across all property owners.
We will achieve these priorities by continuing to modernize our data systems, conducting regular field reviews, and applying state guidelines uniformly across all property types. I am committed to strengthening staff training and improving transparency with clear communication to the public.
First, fairness is achieved by applying uniform valuation methods based on New Mexico statutes and appraisal standards to every property, regardless of location or ownership. This includes using reliable market data, conducting regular reappraisals, and performing field reviews to keep property information accurate and up to date. Ongoing staff training also ensures that everyone in the office applies these standards consistently.
Transparency comes from making the process understandable and accessible. This means clearly explaining how values are determined, providing property owners with easy access to their records, and being available to answer questions.
I am committed to ongoing training that strengthens staff expertise in technical, legal, and administrative aspects of property valuation. Technically, staff will be trained in appraisal methods, GIS tools, and data systems to ensure accurate and consistent valuations. Legally, training will focus on New Mexico statutes, compliance, and proper documentation to support valuations during protests. Administratively, I will emphasize customer service, clear communication, and efficient office procedures. This continued professional development ensures our team remains knowledgeable, consistent, and dedicated to serving the public with integrity.
