I have worked in the Assessor’s Office for 21 years gaining the experience needed to serve the constituents fairly and accurately. I am a Certified Appraiser through the NM Property Tax Division and a Licensed Appraiser through the NM Real Estate Appraiser’s Board.
1. Ensure all properties are assessed uniformly using reliable data and standardized methods. 2. Follow all state regulations and professional guidelines (e.g., IAAO standards) to maintain legal and ethical integrity. 3. Clearly communicate how values are determined and be responsive to taxpayer questions and appeals. 4. Maintain accurate, up-to-date property records and ensure systems (like CAMA) are reliable. 5. Support ongoing training and certification to keep the team knowledgeable and effective. 6. Ensuring office operations are effective and efficient.
I would ensure fairness and transparency by using consistent valuation methods and applying the same standards to all properties. I'd keep clear documentation of how values are determined and use reliable, up-to-date market data. I would also communicate openly with property owners, explaining assessments and guiding them through the appeals process if needed. This helps build trust and ensures accountability.
All employees will participate in training through courses offered by the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO). Appraisers will be required to obtain New Mexico Certified Appraiser status through the Property Tax Division within five years of hire. In addition, I will support and provide any further training opportunities that enhance employee performance and align with the responsibilities of their positions.
