I have worked for nonprofits and governmental social service agencies for over 18 years. I was treasurer for the SCOPE Health Council for over 3 years and on the board for 5 years. I am a small business owner and manage one of the largest events in Socorro County - the Festival of the Cranes. I'm always looking to strengthen community partnerships and find sustainable solutions.
Access to public transportation, accessible healthcare, early childhood care, K-12 education and attracting good paying entry level employment. Drought and water scarcity impact farmers and ranchers as well as eco-toursim such as bird watching.
I would assess strengths and gaps in services, funding or resources. I would work with our leaders in healthcare, transportation, education, economic development, emergency services, youth/senior services, etc. to collaborate with city, state and national elected leaders and funding sources to make our county stronger for future generations.
I would like to implement some sort of opt in county-wide communication system like the City of Socorro uses. In addition the El Defensor Chieftain is a great way to reach citizens, either through submitted articles or insertions with information.
Socorro County is nothing without our water. Our agricultural and eco-tourism industries depend on it. I would work with local and statewide water experts to determine if an industry or would drastically harm our water resources and fight to keep our water as the highest priority.
