I have over 30 years of public service. I served as a law enforcement officer for over 28 years retiring as a chief of police. I continue to work with our local ditch (Acequia) as the Mayordomo. My service to the City of Grants as a law enforcement officer has prepared me to step into the realm of county politics. During my time as a chief of police, I managed a small police department that included maintaining a balanced budget, retention of officers and staff, working directly with the public, as well as working with the city council and city manager. I also had the opportunity to work as an investigator with the 13th Judicial District Attorney's Office for eight years.
I view the biggest challenges in Cibola County are economic development and public safety.
I believe Cibola County should provide all the tools necessary to address criminal activity in all areas of the county, specifically drug crimes. As we know, drug problems lead to property crimes. The county should also provide needed resources to the many local fire departments in the rural areas of the county. In our current drought situation, we need to figure out incentives that would allow the local fire departments to recruit volunteers and retain them.

As for economic development, Cibola County should work directly with both local governments to bring in new businesses and jobs. We should always be on the lookout for any grants and legislative funding (state and federal) that could help accomplish these goals.
I believe Cibola County Commission meeting should be transparent even before the meeting is held. The current administration sends out email announcements regarding upcoming meetings with agendas. Perhaps that information can be posted on the Cibola County website. I would also like to see the Cibola County Commission meetings live streamed via YouTube. Not everyone, uses Facebook. Plus, YouTube archives meetings.

I would also encourage citizens to reach out to their commissioners and offer their opinion prior to the meetings. If elected, I would consider a social media account specifically for constituent comments or opinions on matters presented.

Since I manage our Acequia in my home town, I understand water scarcity. My concern with water is, we need to be very cautious with big corporations seeking to build in Cibola County while consuming large amounts of water. Studies would need to be looked into before we make knee jerk decisions just to get agreements signed. We basically need to look at the future implications before we decide. The impact may or may not be immediate, which is why we need detailed studies. Making quick decisions may have adverse affects to future generations in our community. Quick money doesn't always equal a positive outcome.
