I have served the Rutherford County Sheriffs Office for 28 years, starting in Detention and working my way through multiple roles to Lieutenant on Patrol. I earned every stripe by doing the work, leading from the front, and taking responsibility when it mattered. My wife Sandy and I have been married 23 years, and we run Silver Hill Medical Clinic together. We are raising our daughters, Kiley and Elley, on the same four generation family property where I grew up. This county is home, and my entire career has been dedicated to protecting it. I bring real experience, real leadership, and a lifelong commitment to keeping Rutherford County safe.
The Sheriff’s Office is responsible for protecting the community while upholding the Constitution. The sheriff oversees patrol, investigations, detention, court security, and the civil process, ensuring every division operates safely and professionally. This role demands Proven Experienced leadership, setting direction, guiding deputies, enforcing standards, and supporting the men and women who protect this county. The sheriff manages staffing, training, resources, and the budget with accountability to taxpayers. Above all, the sheriff must safeguard constitutional rights and ensure every action respects due process and individual liberties.
The biggest challenge facing the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office right now is the growing gap between the demands of this county and the Leadership needed to meet them. Crime is increasing with population growth, and our deputies, detention officers, and SROs are being asked to do more with limited support, inconsistent direction, and strained resources. When leadership isn’t Experienced, Steady, or Engaged, the entire agency feels it, response times suffer, morale drops, and proactive policing becomes reactive policing.
I’ll address this by bringing Steady, Proven and Experienced Leadership to the Sheriff’s Office. With nearly three decades in this agency, I know how to strengthen proactive policing, support deputies, detention officers, and SROs, and rebuild the operational readiness this county needs. I’ll set clear expectations, improve staffing and training, and ensure every division has the direction and resources to stay ahead of crime. I’ll also manage the budget responsibly, making smart, practical decisions that protect taxpayers while improving public safety. My focus is simple: lead from experience, support our people, and keep Rutherford County safe.

The main responsibilities are to patrol and respond to calls for service in the areas of the County not covered by local police. Investigate crimes, make arrests, and enforce the the laws. Manage and supervised the county jail and juvenile detention. Oversee inmate safety and security, transport inmates to court and other facilities as necessary. Provide security for the courts and judges. Provide security for the Rutherford County schools. Serve legal papers, warrants, subpoenas, and evictions. Fugitive apprehension, and respond to and assist with natural disasters. Manage the budget, oversee hiring and recruit training.
First and foremost is the construction of a new County jail facility. The retention of current and new sheriff deputies, and the acquisition of equipment necessary for them to do their jobs. Setting and maintaining a workable budget.
The funding for a new jail facility is the responsibility of the County Commissioners, and the mayor. I would work with the mayor and Commissioners to assure our deputies are compensated appropriately. I would like to see the Sheriff's department have it's own auto impound lot. The department I spent most of my career with had their own auto pound which generated over seven million dollars per year in revenue, and this extra income could provide for higher pay for deputies, which would lead to better recruitment and better retention of deputies.

As Sheriff and Chief Law Enforcement Officer in Rutherford County, Constitutional duties are serving civil and criminal warrants, operating the jail, courtroom security, patrolling and protecting the community.
Resolving inmate overcrowding and lack of administrative space. Correctional facilities age and deteriorate faster than most public buildings. These operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, have no opportunity for shutdowns, extended maintenance windows, nor reduced occupancy. All of which contribute to continuous use, high stress environments, security requirements, and population pressures which start the process.
I am currently working with county leadership to build a new state of the art jail. Part of building a new jail is utilizing a design which offers a more efficient layout to enhance staffing while increasing officer safety. Design for current and future needs, reduce liabilities, purpose build treatment space, better recruitment and retention, a planned, predictable investment demonstrates intended accountability. Delaying construction leads to higher long-term costs through lawsuits, repairs and emergency measures. While planned construction is far less expensive than court mandated fixes. A modern jail supports dignity and rehabilitation. Doing nothing is not a neutral choice, it carries real consequences.
