What do you see as the main responsibilities of a county commissioner?

What are two goals you would like to accomplish during your term of office?

How would you accomplish those goals?

A county commissioner's top priority needs to be the people. That means valuing their constituents' voices, making choices that won't negatively affect them, and acting on their issues and concerns. Other than direct involvement with the people of Rutherford County, a county commissioner acts as the legislative body of county government. They manage and set the county budget and act as a policy maker for the community. As I've seen at the meetings, County Commissioners often discuss topics like zoning, land use, public safety, and legal affairs where they usually have a vote that sometimes spark a debate.
The first goal I would like to see accomplished would be the closure of the Middle Point Landfill. Since the landfill has been a common issue for everyone for so long, it needs to be handled as soon as possible. We have already had irreversible damage to our community and that should not be ignored. The second goal I plan to accomplish is a rejection of any and all new Ai data centers in Rutherford County. The AI data centers would cause some of the same issues as the landfill and more. I want to stop it before it becomes a problem here.
I think the only way the majority will support a complete closure of the landfill would happen is if we had an alternative to it. Incinerators are the most ideal choice because they have significantly less environmental impacts and it plans for the long term instead of ruining beautiful land indefinitely. I would vote in favor of an incinerator outside of any residential areas and encourage its development. As for the Ai data centers, I'm looking ahead to protect my constituents from increasing energy bills, 24 hour noise pollution, and polluted water and air. I will propose the "Resolution to Place a temporary Moratorium on AI Data Center Development" while pressuring other elected officials to get on board with a total ban.
