As a County Commissioner, I represent the citizens of District 3 while helping guide the policies, finances, and future direction of county government. We are members of the county’s legislative body, voting on resolutions and major decisions that affect the community. One of their most important duties is approving the county budget and ensuring taxpayer dollars are used responsibly. Commissioners also provide oversight of county departments, serve on committees, and help plan for infrastructure, public safety, and responsible growth. Just as importantly, I act as a voice for my constituents—listening to concerns, addressing local issues, and working to ensure county government operates effectively for the people I serve
Two goals I would like to accomplish during my term focus on responsible planning and protecting county taxpayers. First, I want to work with state leadership to either have the State of Tennessee build a prison facility or increase the daily rate paid to the Sheriff’s Office for housing state prisoners. County taxpayers should not bear the financial burden of housing inmates who belong in the state system.
Second, I want the Commission to establish a clear policy and long-term program to address our growing infrastructure needs. With the rapid growth in Rutherford County, we must plan ahead for roads, public safety, and public facilities in a responsible and strategic way.
I believe progress comes through collaboration and consistent engagement. Since joining the Commission six months ago, I have already begun meeting with members of our state delegation to discuss the issue of housing state prisoners. The topic is now being discussed in state committees, and I hope to continue advocating for Rutherford County by working with lawmakers and, if possible, speaking at the state capitol to highlight the financial burden placed on our county. On infrastructure, I have been meeting with the Road Superintendent’s staff and planning officials to discuss a strategic direction for addressing our growth. I also support working with fellow commissioners to establish participation agreements with developers.
