I would audit the utilities and look for the causes of their rising charges. If there is greed, I will legislate price caps. If the utility company is funding the construction of power generation facilities, I would supply a government grant to help pay for the generation facility, under terms that the utility rates are significantly reduced. If the issue is data center electrical demands, the legislation will have the data centers paying for the extra power demand so that Hoosiers' utility bills are not impacted.
I desire to increase funding to public schools, ensuring all public school teachers are paid professional wages. If I don't dismantle the charter school system, the management of funds for charter schools will be handled by local superintendents, not the state. In addition, public funds will not be reserved for charter schools. I will have to review the entire state budget and rebalance it to increase focus on public education.
I seek to repeal the legislation that are causing the undue funding stresses on local schools, or the state will be distributing funds to local governments to offset local funding shortfalls.
I will have to review every suggested policy along with obtaining more legitimate data involving poverty and homelessness. I will look into establishing a state minimum wage out of our federal government's neglect to raise the minimum wage. Unfortunately, whatever policies I will offer have to work with whatever budget the state has available.
