Brown County Coroner
The voters elect the coroner, a constitutional officer, to a four-year term. The coroner:• Must live in the county• Must complete training w/in six months• Determines the manner of death in cases involving violence, accidents or unexplained circumstances and must notify the police agency with area jurisdiction of such deaths• Employs a qualified physician to conduct autopsies when required• Reports cause of death to county health officer and reports all investigated deaths to the county clerk• May act as a peace officer, performing the duties of the sheriff if the sheriff is incapacitated or disqualified and does not have a chief deputy. The coroner can arrest the sheriff when a warrant is issued.

The job of the coroner is to identify the deceased and determine cause of death. I also feel it is very important to provide empathy and support to the families who are grieving and help them through the process as comfortably as possible.
I have an extensive background in emergency services. I have been a member of the Hamblen Township Volunteer Fire Dept since 2003 and currently serving as fire chief. I also work for IU Health Lifeline that provides the EMS service for the county and worked for CRH EMS the previous provider prior to that, serving as an advanced EMT and a paramedic.
I have had the opportunity to work with our past and present coroners and feel I have a good understanding for the position.
At this point I feel the office functions just as it should. I have no immediate plans for change at this time. I feel I need to getting a better understanding of all the intricacies of the office before planning any future changes.
