I decided to run for a seat on the Vilas County Board of Supervisors to help bridge the communication divide within our community. Too many residents have become disconnected from local government, and I want to help rebuild that connection by encouraging greater involvement, particularly in areas such as tourism and public services that are vital to our county.
Two of the most significant issues facing Vilas County are state tax levies and the need to encourage younger generations to become more involved in local government and community leadership. Addressing these challenges will be important to ensuring the long-term strength and sustainability of our county.
My background has prepared me well to serve in this role. I am a lifelong public servant, having served in the military and worked as a sheriff’s deputy for 11 years. In addition, I have been involved in the tourism industry for more than 20 years, giving me valuable insight into one of the key drivers of our local economy which I hope to help grow and improve the counties number one industry, tourism.
Transparency and accessibility are very important to me. I make it a priority to respond to calls and emails as quickly as possible, often within minutes. I also volunteer more than 20 hours each month in my community, sometimes more. Most importantly, I take the time to listen to residents’ concerns and work to understand different perspectives, even when I may not agree. I believe open communication and respectful dialogue are essential to ensuring the public has a strong voice in county decision-making.
