A sense of commitment to serve my community which was instilled in me by my parents, and from encouragement from others to continue to serve another term.
Top two issues, continuing to provide services necessary and/or required by law, to our residents and communities in Vilas County by responsible budgeting and financial discipline. With ever changing demands, costs, demographic and expenses, this can be difficult. Obviously, the way the state legislature works and functions, can impact how we are better able to do that. Secondly, we have a top-notch group of County employees. It's important to support our county employees and department leaders as best we can.
I have a strong work ethic. The experiences I've gain being a county board member the past several years, and from the skills, training and experiences I learned serving my community as a law enforcement officer (WI State Patrol and WI DNR, total of 25 years) helped me serve more effectively. Over my lifetime I have gained knowledge to help serve my community by getting to know and learning from others, from all walks of life.
I think it's very important to be transparent and accessible to residents. If they have concerns, questions, input or ideas, it's important for people to know and feel comfortable in contacting their county board supervisor. They should be involved in our decision-making processes. The more people that get involved, the better. It's important for people to understand what we do and how we do it. So, hopefully more people would be encouraged to get involved or serve on the board. Every County Board member's contact information is on the County's website. Part of being on the board is to be available to speak with residents if they have concerns, questions or comments.
