I believe data centers may offer economic benefits, but those benefits should never come at the expense of our communities health, environment, or infrastructure. Serving on the Prince George’s County Data Center Task Force showed me how complex these decisions are—from energy demand and water use to land use and grid strain. Maryland should move forward cautiously, ensuring strong oversight, environmental protections, sustainable energy use, and meaningful community engagement in every decision
I’ve seen the impact of rising energy bills in my community and my own family. Escalating utility costs are driven by aging infrastructure, increased demand on the power grid, regional market pressures, and needed upgrades to maintain reliability. We must ensure strong oversight so costs are justified and not shifted onto residents. Expanding energy efficiency and weatherization programs can lower bills, while transparency and accountability must guide decisions to protect Maryland families.
Yes. Improving public transportation across Maryland expands economic opportunity and helps residents reliably reach work, school, healthcare, and other essential services. For many families, transit is a necessity, not a convenience. Investments should focus on access, safety, and reliability—expanding routes, improving connections, and using flexible solutions where appropriate. Thoughtful planning can strengthen mobility while ensuring systems remain affordable and sustainable.
Maryland must balance its budget, so we must invest carefully. My top priorities are education, support for seniors and working families, and community well-being. I will fight to fully implement the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, support programs that help families and seniors facing rising costs for housing, food, healthcare, and utilities, and invest in public safety through violence prevention, mental health services, and community-based solutions that strengthen and stabilize communities.
Immigrants are an important part of Maryland’s communities and economy, raising families, starting businesses, and strengthening our workforce. As a Black woman, I understand what it means for communities to be marginalized or excluded from opportunity. I will always work to ensure that communities like mine—communities that have historically been marginalized—are supported, protected, and included in the decisions that shape our future.

I support a responsible approach to data center development in Maryland. While data centers can create jobs and generate revenue, they also place heavy demands on energy, water, and land use. Any new projects must include strong safeguards so they do not raise utility costs, strain infrastructure, or harm surrounding communities. Economic growth must be balanced with protecting residents and the environment.
Escalating utility costs in Maryland are driven by rising energy demand, aging infrastructure, and the cost of maintaining and modernizing the electric grid. As a legislator, I support investments in grid reliability, expanding clean and affordable energy sources, and strengthening consumer protections. We must ensure that utilities are held accountable and that costs are not unfairly shifted onto ratepayers.
Yes. Reliable and accessible public transportation is essential for connecting Marylanders to jobs, schools, and economic opportunity. The General Assembly has taken steps to improve transit, including investments through the Transportation and Climate Solutions Act of 2022 and funding for projects like the Purple Line. I support continuing to strengthen transit options, reduce congestion, and ensure communities across Maryland have safe, affordable ways to get where they need to go.
My top budget priorities are investing in strong public schools, protecting public safety, and supporting economic opportunity for working families. I will continue to fight for funding for K–12 education under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, resources that strengthen community safety and victim services, and investments that help grow small businesses and workforce development. A balanced budget should reflect our commitment to opportunity, safety, and strong communities.
Immigrants are an important part of Maryland’s communities and economy. I will continue supporting policies that expand access to education, workforce opportunities, and essential services while ensuring families feel safe and supported. I also support initiatives like the Maryland Dream Act, which helps immigrant students access higher education and strengthen their ability to contribute to our state’s future.

Like any technology, we must balance the potential benefits to human society with the potential harms to everyday life and the environment. Many Marylanders benefit data centers paying commercial taxes to their local government. While others are concerned with the increase demand on for electricity. I would sponsor a working group to study the pros and cons of data centers and to create a regulatory framework that would protect Marylanders while maintaining the environment.
There are many factors contributing to escalating utility costs in Maryland. Some of the biggest contributors are increased energy demand, infrastructure costs to update aging utility lines, and extreme long wait times to connect new power to the grid. We need to reform our permitting process so it doesn't take 19 years to build a new transmission line. We need to take advantage of clean energy sources such as hydropower and geothermal power. These things will lower costs for Marylanders.
Yes. Improving public transportation will improve Maryland's economy while lowering our carbon footprint. Land values are high near public transportation infrastructure sites. Additionally, the ability to cluster housing and jobs near transit sites have positive economic externalities. At the same time, transportation is one of the leading causes of climate change. By providing means to move long distances besides cars, we can lower the carbon impact of transportation across the state.
My two biggest budget priorities will be ending the corporate loophole that allows LLCs, partnerships, or S-corporations to become exempt from federal and state corporate income taxes. This reform could generate an estimated $745 million in revenue. This idea is based on information from Fair Share. Secondly, I will push to allow the sale of beer and wine in grocery stores. That policy change would provide $75 million a year in new tax revenue without any new taxes. I'll protect the blueprint.
As the American population ages and many Americans enjoy their retirements, it will be important to have young workers driving our economy. Immigrants who work in childcare, construction, or the home health industry provide many benefits to Marylanders. We will support immigrants with ESL classes, fighting against ICE abuses, and allow foreign trained professionals like doctors to work in Maryland.

I support additional data centers in Maryland only if they are developed responsibly and with strong protections for residents, the environment, and our infrastructure. Data centers can create construction jobs, increase commercial tax revenue, and attract technology investment that helps Maryland remain competitive in a growing digital economy. However, the rapid expansion of data centers, especially those supporting AI and cloud computing, places significant pressure on grids.
First, increased demand on the regional power grid, including the rapid growth of energy-intensive data centers and technology infrastructure, has placed additional strain on the system. Finally, Maryland must prioritize consumer protection. I support stronger assistance programs for vulnerable residents and policies that prevent excessive utility shutoffs during periods of economic hardship or extreme weather.

The goal should be simple: reliable, affordable energy for Maryland families.
Yes, the availability of public transportation should be improved across Maryland because reliable transportation is directly connected to economic opportunity, education, healthcare access, and quality of life. Too many residents, especially seniors, working families, students, and people with disabilities, struggle to access dependable and affordable transportation options.

Maryland must maintain a balanced budget while continuing to invest in the people and services that strengthen our communities and economy. My top three budget priorities would be education and workforce development, public safety and community stability, and affordability for working families and seniors.
Immigrants are an important part of Maryland’s communities, workforce, culture, and economy. Many immigrant families come to Maryland seeking opportunity, safety, education, and a better future for their children, and they contribute every day as small business owners, healthcare workers, educators, construction workers, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

I believe Maryland should continue to support policies that promote fairness, opportunity, and inclusion.
