Yes—with strong community stipulations.
Data centers can support economic growth, but they must not strain our power grid, water supply, or land use. I support them only if a community-based commission sets clear local guidelines to ensure sustainability and direct benefits for residents.
Escalating utility costs in Maryland are being driven by overregulation, added program costs, and aging infrastructure. Programs like the EmPOWER Maryland program, while well-intended, often add fees to ratepayers without delivering proportional savings.
I believe we must audit and streamline these programs, eliminating unnecessary costs and hidden fees. At the same time, we should focus on modernizing infrastructure responsibly and increasing oversight to ensure utilities are accountable.
Reliable transit connects people to jobs, education, and essential services, especially in underserved communities. By improving access and efficiency, we can reduce traffic, lower commuting costs, and support economic growth—while making it easier for families to get where they need to go safely and affordably.
First, I will invest in workforce development to create pipelines into skilled trades and high-demand careers—reducing long-term dependency and strengthening our economy.
Second, I will push to eliminate government waste by auditing programs and cutting inefficiencies, ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent wisely.
Third, I will work to improve welfare programs by targeting abuse, so resources go to those who truly need them while promoting pathways to self-sufficiency.
I support legal immigration and the important role immigrants play in strengthening Maryland’s communities and economy.
We should ensure that those who come here legally have access to opportunities to work, contribute, and succeed. At the same time, I believe in upholding the rule of law and will not interfere with federal enforcement efforts—particularly when focused on removing individuals who pose serious public safety risks.Our approach should be fair, lawful, and focused on both sides.

I have carefully examined this issue, and it needs further explored. My first degree (1994) is in IT. I understand the importance of securing data and the desire to keep up with technology and customer demands. However, the potential impact on communities both economically (in the short term) and environmentally, are just as valid. Where data centers are placed needs to be explored to mitigate noise pollution & water consumption. We should not be overburdening communities.
Contributing factors are data center demand, transmission cost, environmental and infrastructure costs, and EmPower fees. I plan to support the RELIEF Act proposed by our General Assembly. It is a great start to address the rising cost and moving towards our clean energy endeavors. We have to continue to move towards strengthening long term goals and holding energy companies accountable.
Yes! Although our transportation includes, rail, bus, subway and MARC train systems, there are still daily delays in service, and our roads are too overcrowded. Connectivity is extremely challenging and with the Francis Scott Key Bridge and the fragile state of some of our other bridges and roads, we must seek critical solutions for reliable public transportation. There are many disparities in regional transportation. I'll save that thought for later.
As a member of the Appropriation committee, I am very aware of the challenges our state faces. My priority is to balance the budget as we are required to do. However, my constituent concerns are cuts to DDA, energy, immigration, and the overall cost of living. In addition to remedy their concerns, reimagining the childcare industry, the cost of the blueprint for education, data centers, supporting capital projects and development in my community are equally important.
Immigration is a high priority of mine. Hints why I will continue to support any legislation to oppose the harsh actions sanctioned by ICE. We have to restore public trust and stop dismantling families! This is not an isolated issue, and we need to be proactive with legislation on 287g, the placing of ICE detention centers and the inhumane conditions in which authorities are placing detainee in. Whether it is a rally of policy, I'm in it for the long haul to protect the safety of all.

Last year I voted for a study that will help quantify the environmental and economic impacts of data centers. While we wait for that, we cannot allow unrestrained proliferation like Virginia did. My Data Center Planning and Transparency Act will, if passed, require data centers to disclose their plans and impacts while it's early enough for communities to have input, and require counties and large municipalities to be proactive about planning whether, where, and how they will allow data centers.
Marylanders' skyrocketing utility bills are one of my highest priorities. The causes are many & complex. Demand from data centers is a big problem, including from Virginia data centers on the PJM grid with Maryland. The General Assembly has worked on making data centers pay their fair share. Other energy solutions we've worked on include addressing unfair BGE policies, increasing battery storage and clean energy, which is cheaper than fossil fuel generated energy, and modernizing the grid.
Public transit gives Marylanders more choices, reduces traffic congestion, helps the environment, and increases access to jobs. It also boosts economic development, as businesses invest in communities near transit. I've long been an advocate for more and better public transit, including the Red Line, which would be a vital East-West transit option that would also support the revitalization of areas along the corridor, including Woodlawn in my district. I also support better bike & walk access.
1) Programs to support our most vulnerable, like Medicaid, SNAP, and developmental disability programs. 2) Transit: every $1 invested in transit generates $5 in economic returns, 3) Protecting our environment, including clean and healthy air and water, green space, forests, wetlands, and the Chesapeake Bay, & mitigating climate change.
I also support revenue policies that ensure that the wealthy pay their fair share to fund these and other priorities that would benefit all Marylanders.
My district is home to many diverse immigrants from around the world, and they contribute much to the economy and social fabric of our communities. Over the years I've taken steps to support them publicly and privately. In the General Assembly I've voted for policies to give immigrants better access to healthcare & education, protect personal data in state databases, and prohibit county cooperation with ICE. In a time when immigrants are under attack I will continue to support and protect them.
