I support special elections to fill vacancies because we should strive for the most democratic process possible. However, the 90-day legislative session is brief, and if a vacancy occurs during or just before it, a quick appointment may be necessary to ensure the district remains represented. Ultimately, the Maryland General Assembly would need to change the law to require special elections, and supporters should contact their Delegate or Senator.
I will endeavor to appoint candidates who serve the best interests of the Montgomery County community when selecting a person to fill a vacancy. I do not wish to limit the assessment of the best candidate to a single set of criteria, but a non-exhaustive list of factors I will consider includes experience, compassion for the community, honesty, and a demonstrated commitment to ethical conduct.
I seek to serve because I am a proud lifelong Democrat who believes in compassion, unity, and civil rights for all. As founder of the Mount Law Firm, I represent vulnerable communities in juvenile defense and civil commitment cases in D.C. Superior Court. As a father of four, I am committed to a country rooted in diversity, integrity, and freedom. Public service—through law and party leadership—is an extension of that responsibility.
I will ensure that my appointment decisions serve the best interests of the community by thoroughly vetting candidates through careful investigation and interviews. I will also welcome and consider feedback from community members when making such an important decision.
