As our community has not had to exercise a General Assembly appointment during my time on the Central Committee, I don't have an informed opinion based on experience.
Should the situation happen where the GCDCC needed to fill a vacancy, we would chose the criteria to fill the position as a committee with consensus.
As a member of the Garrett County Democratic Centra Committee since 2019 and serving as the Chair for all that time, I am extremely committed to promoting the Democratic values, our Democratic candidates, and and the power of being in community with other Garrett County Democrats. I look forward, should I be elected, to serving for another term and helping recruit other Democrats to continue the work, especially young Democrats.

Absolutely.
I would want the person who I believe is most involved in their community. In order to represent your community, you have to be intertwined with it.
If I'm being genuine, my friend who has been helping out Maryland Dems for many years suggested I run. I've helped her out from time to time with events but never had the desire to be politically involved myself. After giving it much thought, I realized how much of my life I've always wanted to help improve the entire community I grew up around. Whether big or small, I would love to have any kind of positive effect on the towns that made me who I am.

I support special elections to fill such vacancies, dependent (given costs) on the timing of the vacancy. I am in support of currently proposed legislation that a special election should be held when the vacancy occurs at least 55 days before the filing deadline of the next election.
The MD General Assembly should be filled with eligible and informed candidates who have some community standing, with integrity and a vested alignment with local goals - together with demonstrated leadership experience. Positions would be filled chosen following discussions with community stakeholders.
My motivations for serving on the Garrett County Democratic Central Committee stem from my long-standing commitment to community engagement and political activism. I have served as an election judge for decades. As a GCDCC member, I would work to build a stronger Democrat local presence (especially in the northern portion of our County, where I live). As an educator, I would also focus on informing, recruiting, and energizing local volunteers. I want to give back to my community and state.
I would aim to adopt a "Listen First" approach when working with community members and leaders. Communication is key to ensure decisions reflect the needs and best interests of our community. As a Garrett County local, it is super important to me that community perspectives are considered when moving forward on any issue or appointment.

I believe voters should have a voice in choosing who represents them, so I support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly whenever it is practical. Direct elections strengthen trust in our democracy and ensure representation reflects the will of the people. In cases where timing makes a special election impractical, a temporary appointment may be necessary.
I would look for someone who genuinely understands the needs of the people in our district and is willing to listen to the community. It’s important to me that the person chosen respects democratic values and will work to protect basic human rights, including access to healthcare and economic stability for families.
I want to serve on the Central Committee because I care deeply about our community and the future of Garrett County. I believe in protecting human rights and making sure people have access to healthcare, stability, and opportunity. I want to help strengthen the Democratic Party locally and support leaders who will truly serve the people.
I would listen closely to the community and consider the input of local residents and leaders before making a decision. The goal should always be to choose someone who will represent the people well and work in the best interest of the district, not personal or political agendas.

I believe the party’s Central Committee often knows strong candidates who can quickly step in and fill a vacancy, helping maintain continuity in government. However, I also believe special elections are important because they allow constituents to directly choose their representative. A balanced approach using appointments when needed but prioritizing elections when possible, best respects both efficiency and the voice of voters.
When selecting someone to fill a vacancy in the Maryland General Assembly, I would look for a person with integrity, a strong understanding of the community’s needs, and a commitment to public service. They should have experience working with local organizations or government and be willing to listen to constituents. Most importantly, they should represent the values and priorities of the district they are chosen to serve
I want to serve on the Garrett County Democratic Party’s Central Committee because I believe strong local leadership helps shape the future of our communities. Serving on the committee is an opportunity to support candidates, strengthen grassroots engagement, and ensure our party represents the voices of local voters. I’m motivated by a desire to help build a more responsive and active political community
To ensure appointments serve the community’s best interests, I would focus on candidates with integrity, public service experience, and a clear understanding of local needs. Listening to community input and considering the district’s priorities are also important. The goal is to choose someone who will represent constituents well and serve responsibly until voters have the opportunity to decide.
Absolutely. The People should have the say in who fills an empty seat.
Responsiveness to the community. Not just whether they respond, but also how, and if there is follow-through.
To help the rest of the committee expand the party through outreach and other initiatives.
Through research, debate, and discussion as a committee, we will do the best we can to find someone appropriate for the General Assembly.
For Committee vacancies, active associate members are promoted to voting member.
