Yes. Our leaders should be chosen by voters, not a small group of people gathered in a room somewhere. This would require a change in state law which I would support, particularly for a vacancy that occurs early in the term. In the meantime, I would strive as much as possible to ensure that an appointee reflects the will and values of voters.
There are three main things I will ask: 1) Does the person respect the human rights and dignity of every constituent, regardless of their race, immigration status, religion, family makeup, gender identity, etc? 2) How do they plan to improve the lives of Carroll County residents? 3) Are they committed to safeguarding public goods, including our schools and libraries?
I have served on the Committee since last year and humbly ask for the opportunity to continue. I'm ready to work hard to continue building a stronger Democratic Party. That means proudly embracing being a Dem and what it stands for, bringing in new voters, and getting candidates elected. I am proud of what we have recently accomplished. For the first time in years there are Dems running up and down the ballot in Carroll County. My mission is to keep this momentum going.
The community should have the ultimate say about what is in its best interest, so I would advocate for a process that has as much public participation as possible. This could include things like distributing applications for folks who are interested in serving, holding public events for people to learn about prospective appointees and ask questions, and straw polling. This would be a challenge but certainly not an insurmountable one.

I have been on a previous Committee when we were charged with filling a vacancy. The process worked well. Central Committees are an elected body chosen by the voters. Like other elected individuals, they are accountable to those voters.
The cost involved with planning a special election is high. The time lapse of no representation for the District is extended. The voter turnout tends to be very low.
For all of these reasons, I support the Central Committee process to fill a vacancy.
I would support in depth interviews of applicants to identify a person who represents the values and beliefs of the District. I would seek the opinion and consider the preference of community leaders and if possible, the outgoing member. An ideal candidate would be someone who has the experience and skills to step in and get up to speed quickly. It is important that the District have representation as quickly as possible.
I have served diligently on the Committee for several terms. I have served in all of the leadership positions and have managed midterm and federal election cycles. I want to put my skills to work in these extraordinary times. Having participated in identifying more Democratic candidates than we have had in decades, I want to continue for another term to guide our party through this transition.
Note: If I am fortunate to win the House of Delegates seat I am also seeking, I will resign this seat.

I think that special elections are generally preferable and the voters should choose. I understand the many reasons they are not always practicable, especially if the vacancy occurs late in the official's term. As a current Central Committee member I am prepared to participate responsibly as the law currently dictates and as I believe to be in the best interest of constituents.
I will choose people to fill vacancies based on their qualifications and passion for service, ability to collaborate successfully within their party and across party lines, and a demonstrable understanding of and commitment to our community.
I was appointed to the Central Committee and would like to continue service for the same reasons I am currently serving. I believe that a strong big-tent Democratic Party in every state and every county across the U.S. is important for a strong democracy and country. I would like to work to ensure every voice is heard and represented.
I can help to ensure that by advocating for a robust selection process to vet and learn about interested individuals. It will take into consideration their professional and volunteer accomplishments, ability to articulate their vision and abilities, and a mechanism for public input in the process.
Yes, I do.
Selecting a person of integrity and knowledge of the people that they are serving is key. I would want to ensure that the person has some experience in the political realm, and individuals that are willing to vouch for their character.S
Since moving to Carroll County, I've been in the business of serving others. As an educator, I gave of my time and money happily to the youth. Having kids of my own now, I want to continue to make a positive impact on the decisions being made in Carroll County and help the correct people to get elected in order to make the choices that will truly benefit ALL citizens of this county.
We can never ensure anything. I can ensure that I would be a voice for all individuals when making those appointments, if necessary. I can ensure that I would suggest the appointment that I felt was best suited for the position and pray that my instincts and due diligence don't fail me.

I think Central Committees should make appointments. These kinds of special elections get very poor turnout. This is one responsibility Central Committees should perform to assure that vacancies are filled promptly.
The Central Committee should choose a replacement who has views that reflect the members of the committee and the person being replaced. The will of the people is reflected by the result of the last election. The Central Committee should not go against this.
Democracy does not work if there are not opposing viewpoints. All areas in the country deserve functioning parties that work to increase voter turnout and help elect members of the party. The system works best when there are opponents try to express viewpoints. This is what gives voters a choice.
The interest of the community was expressed in the most recent election. Appointments should reflect that outcome. Changes in government direction should not come from unelected officials. Someone with very different views can wait until the next election and run for office then.
I believe that it is important for people to have the proper representation. I agree that if a vacancy comes up a special election is a good idea.
The most important criteria is can that person fill the roll that meets the community/county or state needs. Is that person qualified to do that job and can they do it fairly and with their constituents in mind.
Here in Carroll I think it is extremely important to have a visible presence and voice in the county. There needs to be a committee and members who are fighting to make sure both sides are heard and have proper representation.
The democratic central committee has a gender balance clause so the first step would be to make sure we have that balance before appointing anyone. Most importantly after that for me is if that person is willing and ready to do the work. We are an active committee and engaged in our community and that person would need to do the same. It is also good to have someone who fills a need that may not be met within the committee.

I believe that allowing the public to have their voices heard is important. Our communities' needs and values are always changing therefore the committee of just a few does not always reflect what the public wants and needs. I believe that special elections should be required to replace the positions when appointments are made. However if the term left is very short a costly special election may not be the answer. Both parties and independents should have a voice in selecting our lawmakers.
The criteria I would use to fill a vacancy in the General Assembly would be based on the candidates integrity, intelligence, qualifications, and experience. I will also speak to constituents about their concerns and needs. I would take this responsibility very seriously.
I want to serve on my party’s Central Committee because I believe everyone deserves a voice at the table. I am deeply involved in supporting strong public school funding, women’s rights, and the rights of minority communities. I believe in protecting our Constitution and the basic freedoms it guarantees. On the Central Committee, I will work hard to ensure every voice is heard and to support candidates who listen to their constituents and stand up for these values.
I plan to research candidates applying for the position thoroughly as well as speak to constituents to understand their wants and needs. I will base my decisions on the research and the conversations I have with voters to fill a vacant position.
Yes, this is the best way to select an individual who represents the wishes of the majority of county/district voters. One caveat would be for vacancies occurring late term. In this situation, the party Central Committee could appoint the individual to complete the term.
I feel it is most important to examine the record and experience of potential candidates. It is vital that their views and qualifications closely match the majority of voters they will represent. Their past and present engagement should demonstrate a commitment to getting things done. All prospective candidates should be carefully screened and vetted.
I want to actively engage in efforts to protect our democracy. I have concern for much of what is currently unfolding in our nation and hope to be part of finding common ground solutions. As a career educator, I feel an obligation to my family and friends, as well as current and future county residents.
The most effective way to ensure this match is to engage and involve the community. I am excited to be a current associate member as the CCDCC has actively engaged in information gathering. This has been accomplished via community meetings, questionnaires, polls, etc. Information gathered guides the CCDCC in representing the interests and wishes of voters.
I support special elections when a vacancy occurs early enough to justify the cost and give voters a meaningful choice. In practice, special elections can be expensive, slow, and draw low turnout, so timing matters. When a vacancy occurs late in a term, a prompt appointment by an elected central committee, using transparent criteria, broad outreach, and public input, can be the most workable democratic option while keeping the district represented.
I will use clear criteria that are shared publicly in advance, so applicants and residents know what we are weighing. I will invite community input through an open application, public notice, and opportunities for residents and local leaders to share priorities. I will support a candidate with integrity, relevant experience, readiness to legislate, and a commitment to Democratic values, transparency, and collaboration.
I want to serve because I believe local democracy works best when people feel heard and included. I have the skills, experience, and relationships to help build a Carroll County Democratic Party that is welcoming, transparent, and focused on results. That means supporting strong candidates, listening to residents year-round, engaging new voters, and making decisions that reflect the community, not just insiders or those in power.
To serve the community’s best interest, I will put the district’s needs over internal politics. I will apply the same standards to every applicant and avoid backroom deals. I will weigh a candidate’s commitment to constituent service, ethical leadership, independence, and ability to build coalitions, along with readiness to do the work immediately. I’ll seek input from residents, civic groups, and district leaders, disclose conflicts, recuse when needed, and explain my vote publicly.
I generally support special elections to fill General Assembly vacancies because they prioritize voter choice and democratic legitimacy. While appointments ensure continuity, elections give constituents a direct voice in who represents them. With reasonable timelines and cost controls, special elections can balance stability with accountability and public trust, especially during polarized times and close legislative margins statewide that benefit fair representation.
I would use clear, consistent criteria focused on effective representation. This includes proven leadership or public service experience, strong ethical standards, and a deep understanding of the district’s needs. I would prioritize candidates with a record of community engagement, alignment with local values, and the ability to collaborate across differences. Transparency and fairness would guide the process to ensure the appointee earns public trust and can serve constituents responsibly.
I want to serve on my party’s Central Committee to strengthen local democracy and ensure decisions reflect the voices of our community. In today’s challenging political environment, marked by polarization and declining trust, thoughtful and ethical leadership matters more than ever. I value transparency, fairness, and grassroots participation, and I want to support candidates and policies that align with our shared values while helping build trust, accountability, and long‑term civic engagement.
I would ensure appointment decisions serve the community by using a transparent, merit‑based process that prioritizes public input. I would review candidates’ experience, ethics, & understanding of district needs, consult local leaders & residents, and apply consistent criteria to avoid favoritism. The goal is to select someone who reflects community values, can represent constituents effectively, and earn public trust. Transparency & accountability are essential to public trust in the process.
I firmly support a special election be held for a person to complete the rest of a term of a seat that has been vacated. This process ensures checks and balances in our democracy.
I feel it should be up to the voters to choose a person to fill a vacancy in the Maryland General assembly. By the people voting then they establish the criteria for the individual to serve the people not the special interest. This is what our founding father’s envisioned when they wrote our Constitution . Fair and free elections.
It is very critical at this time in our Country to stand up and support our Constitution. To believe in freedom for all Americans that is the primary objective of the Constitution . I will work diligently to ensure the principles of our Constitution are ensured for all the people of Carroll County, the State of Maryland and our Country.
As I have stated before I feel that a special election should be held and the voters decide who is best to serve the communities interests.
