DUTIES: The Democratic Central Committee is responsible for leading and organizing the day-to-day operations of the local Democratic Party. The Committee recommends candidates to the Governor to fill vacancies in state and local offices when a member of the party resigns or dies in office. County Central Committees work with the State Central Committee, which in turn works with the national party.TERM: Four years, no term limit.SALARY: None.HOW ELECTED: Democratic Central Committee members are elected by registered party members. The elections in Baltimore County are by legislative district. Voters may vote for the candidates of their choice. I support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly. People deserve a voice in choosing who represents them, especially in moments that shape their community’s future. I also believe special elections would encourage Central Committee members to stay connected to residents, build stronger relationships, and do the work of keeping people informed, engaged, and ready to participate in the democratic process.
When considering someone to fill a vacancy, I would look at their experience, their record of advocacy, and how deeply connected they are to the community they want to represent. I would also consider whether they can work well with other elected officials, because effective leadership requires both strong community roots and the ability to build relationships that deliver real results.
I want to serve on the Democratic State Central Committee because I care deeply about keeping people informed, engaged, and connected to what is happening in their community. I enjoy bringing people together, listening to what matters most to them, and helping create more pathways for civic participation. For me, this is meaningful work, and I would be proud to continue serving in a way that helps strengthen our party and our communities.
I would make appointment decisions in the best interest of the community by building real, ongoing relationships with residents. This can be cultivated by creating opportunities for connections. I want people to feel comfortable reaching out to tell me what they want in a representative, and I also want to be able to reach out to them for their input. Yes, I support special elections to fill General Assembly vacancies, especially when a significant portion of the term remains. Voters deserve a direct voice in choosing their representatives. While Central Committees provide continuity, reforms should include meaningful voter input, ensure transparency, and balance cost and timing. Strengthening democratic participation and public trust must guide how vacancies are filled.
I would prioritize integrity, community service, and a deep understanding of district needs. The selection process should include meaningful public input and be conducted transparently. I would seek a candidate who reflects Democratic values, listens actively to constituents, and demonstrates accessibility and accountability. The appointee must legislate effectively while representing the voices and lived experiences of the entire community.
I want to serve on the Central Committee to ensure all voices in Baltimore County are represented, especially underrepresented communities.
