I believe Central Committees play an important role in conducting a thorough and transparent process to select a qualified candidate, with input from the community. I also recognize that special elections can play an important role in strengthening democracy. However, they should be considered carefully and ideally implemented in a way that does not place additional financial burdens on residents.
My priority is ensuring they have a deep understanding of the district. This means they have already spent time engaging with constituents and listening to the needs of residents, local businesses, schools, and city leaders. They should demonstrate a clear understanding of the district’s challenges and how they would prioritize addressing them.
I believe our questioning process must be thorough so we can develop the fullest picture possible when selecting someone to fill a vacancy.
I want to serve on the Central Committee to ensure our communities are represented, engaged, and informed in the Democratic process. My goal is to support strong candidates, strengthen our party infrastructure, and make sure decisions especially vacancy appointments reflect the voices and needs of the communities we serve.
Communities should be notified and given the opportunity to share what they want in their next representative. The process should also be transparent, with in-person hearings open to the public. Engaging residents and conducting thorough evaluations of candidates helps ensure the selected individual is prepared to represent and advocate for the district effectively. Community input helps ensure that the selection process does not happen in isolation.

I absolutely do! I believe that the voters should have a say as to who should represent them in the MD General Assembly. I support a bill in Annapolis that would allow for special elections for vacancies that occur during the first two years of the term, and appointment for those that exist closer to the election date due to the cost of an election.
First I would make sure the individual understands the role they are seeking, i.e. how many Delegates or Senators are there in Annapolis what they believe their role consists of and what information they can provide in regards to the day to day activities of the position in which they are applying. Second, I would ask what they envision their representation would look like? What issues or legislation would they be focused on, committees they would like to serve, etc...
I believe during this tumultuous period of politics in our country, we need people who are willing to serve in capacities such as central committee in order to show their commitment to the community in which they live, and the Party in which they represent. I believe that the citizens deserve representatives who are active in their communities and willing to work hard on their behalf.
I wholeheartedly believe that too many of our elected members act on their own beliefs and convictions without taking into account the interests of their constituents - who they were elected to represent. My practice will always be to hear from the community voices on how they feel I should consider any vote that represents them. When a vacancy occurs, I would attend community meetings and send out correspondence to community organizations and leaders to see where they stand on the appointment.

Yes. When a seat is empty, I believe voters should get to pick who fills it whenever possible. I trust the Central Committee's role in this process, and when a special election isn't practical, the Committee's appointment process is essential and I'm committed to doing it well. However, I have worked on improving elections throughout the country, and the lesson is always the same: the more people who have a voice in who represents them, the better.
When looking to fill a vacancy, I will look for someone who knows their community. This does not just mean being a local, it means taking the time to knock doors and listen, and showing up for community events. Democratic values are also important for any selection. I will talk to local leaders and residents before I cast my vote, and I'll be upfront about why I chose who I chose, so the community understands my reasoning and can hold me accountable.
Young voters are ready to step up, and the Democratic Party should be ready to welcome them. I'm running because I believe in practical solutions, grassroots organizing, and doing the work to earn trust. The Democratic Central Committee is where that work happens by building a stronger bench of young leaders and increasing voter engagement. Baltimore's future depends on active participation from our youth, and I want to help create that future.
I will make the process open. I will announce the vacancy publicly, accept applications from across the community, and explain clearly what I'm looking for in a candidate. Before making a decision I will consult with local residents and community leaders. Then, when I make a decision, I'll explain exactly why I cast my vote, so everyone can see the choice was made with the whole community in mind.

I understand that this has become a controversial topic. However, after experiencing appointments firsthand and hearing from political groups, I still do not support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly.
The main responsibilities of the central committee are to recruit candidates and to fill vacancies. I believe as elected members to political offices, we should not be stripped from one of our main duties. Also, it'd be expensive and possibly frequent special elections.
If I needed to choose a person to fill a vacancy, I am always reviewing each candidate's cover letter/resume and taking plenty of notes from their interview session. In addition, I look at their current and past work in the community and strengths that would make them capable to fill the position on day one. Understanding that they would still need some support, I am always looking at what they've done already that would help them.
We also provide a transparent and public interviewing process.
When I was first elected back in 2018, I came in helping to revamp our brand, website and means of communications. As the current Chair of the Communications Committee, I am proud of our progress; and believe that we can do even more. More voters are becoming engaged again, and I'd like to expand on that energy.
In addition, I love working as a team to plan candidate forums, educational workshops, trainings and fundraisers. I have formed a relationship with my constituents built on integrity.
When we've had a vacancy in my district, I have always shared the announcement on my platforms: 1) to make the voters aware, 2) to encourage people to apply for the vacancy and 3) to hear from my constituents on their thoughts on each candidate.
I am a big advocate of transparency and community engagement.
