I support giving voters a direct voice whenever practicable. If a vacancy occurs early enough to allow a timely and cost-effective special election, I will support it. If the vacancy is close to a regularly scheduled election, a transparent appointment process with public interviews and recorded votes ensures continuity and accountability.
I will use clear, public criteria: commitment to Democratic values, proven service in the district, readiness to legislate effectively on day one, and unquestioned integrity. I support open interviews and transparent deliberations so the process builds trust. My decision will focus on who can best serve constituents—not political maneuvering.
I want to strengthen democratic institutions at the local level. The Central Committee plays a critical role in candidate development, voter engagement, and protecting fair processes. I bring collaborative leadership and a commitment to transparency, inclusion, and accountability to ensure our party reflects and serves the community with integrity.

Yes. I have expressed support for special elections to fill vacancies in the Maryland General Assembly for several years. No matter how well the process may be run by a particular county central committee, the idea of a small group of party activists selecting someone to fill what could be nearly the entire four-year term does not sit well with me. Maryland is an outlier in this system and it’s time we join the vast majority of states who hold special elections to fill legislative vacancies.
So long as central committees continue to hold this power, I will use this criteria:
-Vision for our state: the person should have a good understanding of the issues facing our state and proposals and positions to address them.
-Record of accomplishments: the person should be able to demonstrate how they bring people together to deliver results.
-Independence: someone who is not afraid to stand up for what they believe in no matter the costs to them personally.
-Support from trusted leaders.
I want to serve on the Anne Arundel County Democratic Central Committee because I have 20 years of political and campaign experience that I would like to offer in service to my party. Having joined most of the monthly meetings for the past two years, I can say the county party does amazing work that they should be proud of. I also see areas of improvement regarding long-term volunteer recruitment and engagement. I would bring my experience to these areas to take the party even farther.
I would like to think that the selection criteria I outlined above would help the central committee select an experienced leader with integrity who will serve the best interests of the community. Beyond that, I think the process should feature dedicated public engagement, including an opportunity for residents of the district in question to provide in-person and virtual testimony attesting to the applicant's accomplishments and character.

I think that our community should have a say in who represents them in the General Assembly. While Central Committees have their role to play, I think we should move towards special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly whenever possible. It should be the people who make this decision, not the insiders.
In selecting a person to fill a General Assembly vacancy, I look to individuals who embody the real community-first approach, people who are deeply connected to the district and who will be accountable to the district. I look to people who will get the job done, who will listen before leading, and who will not be motivated by a sense of political ambition. Integrity, compassion, and commitment to public service are just as important to me as qualifications.
I want to serve on the Central Committee because I believe true leaders lead through service. Our community needs leaders who are accessible and willing to step up and lead when called upon. I have a history of service and leading by example, and I’m prepared to continue serving and working towards making our party stronger, our candidates more successful, and our work more representative of the people we serve.

I believe in the power of the democratic process and always favor ways to increase direct community involvement. That said, I have deep respect for the current role the Central Committee plays under the existing bylaws. It is a significant responsibility to act as the bridge for the community during a transition. My focus is on ensuring that as long as we operate under the appointment process, it is handled with the highest level of integrity, transparency, and outreach.
When evaluating someone for a vacancy, I approach it with the investigative lens I’ve honed over 13 years in state government. It’s about a rigorous vetting process that looks for evidence of a candidate’s commitment to equity. I’ll use the same objective standards I apply as an EEO professional to ensure we select someone with the integrity, professional acumen, and deep community roots required to serve our district effectively from day one. I’m looking for someone whose record shows this.
My motivation comes down to a commitment to "Organize & Mix" strengthening the connection between our neighbors and the party structure that serves them. I see the Central Committee as a vital pillar of our community’s political health. With my background in HR, EEO, conflict resolution, and state government leadership, i want to help the Committee become an even more effective engine that remains welcoming, organized, and equitable for leadership development and community empowerment.
Ultimately, my goal is to ensure that every appointment is a step forward for our district. By combining my professional background in fair practices with a deep-seated love for our community, I will work to ensure that our decisions are not just legally sound, but morally and socially responsible. I am here to ensure that the power of the committee is always used to empower the people.

I support the use of special elections to fill legislative vacancies whenever feasible because voters deserve a direct voice in choosing the people who represent them. At the same time, I recognize the importance of continuity in government and the role Central Committees play in ensuring that work continues without disruption. Special elections strengthen accountability, public trust, and our democracy by giving residents a meaningful role in shaping their future.
When considering a candidate to fill a vacancy in the Maryland General Assembly, my priority would be finding someone with a proven record of putting District 32 first. Integrity, transparency, and a genuine commitment to public service are essential. I would seek a candidate who actively engages with the community, listens to residents, and clearly communicates how their priorities and legislative decisions will affect everyday families.
I grew up in District 32 and have witnessed firsthand the impact of strong leadership and the gaps that exist when leadership does not fully reflect or engage the next generation. As a young Black woman, I did not always see myself represented in political spaces or fully understand how local decisions shaped my everyday life. I want to serve to ensure our community’s voices are heard, our needs are met, and our party reflects us.
When filling a vacancy, my priority is a transparent, community-driven process that puts our district first. I know what it feels like when a community’s needs aren’t prioritized, and that drives me to choose candidates with integrity, a record of service, and a commitment to protecting progress while advancing solutions that reflect our district’s diversity and voices.

Yes, I support the use of special elections. While party Central Committees can fill vacancies quickly, special elections better uphold the principle that voters should choose their representatives. They provide greater legitimacy, accountability, and public trust by giving constituents a direct voice in the selection process. They encourage broader participation and allow a wider range of candidates to be considered, ensuring the chosen representative reflects the district’s needs.
The selection should be based on a few key criteria:
Relevant experience in public service or leadership
Commitment to the community and understanding of district needs
Strong ethics and integrity
Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively
Alignment with the district’s values and, when applicable, party affiliation
Readiness to serve immediately
These factors ensure the appointee can represent constituents effectively and uphold public trust
I am currently a member of the Democratic Central Committee representing District 32 and seek to continue my role. Throughout my life I have had the privilege of working closely with communities in District 32. At the early age of 9 I volunteered, canvassed neighborhoods, assisted with mailings, and participated in community events and service for candidates at all levels. I served as the Vice President of Young Democrats, deepening my commitment to Democratic values and civic engagement.
A transparent, structured, and community-focused approach is essential. This includes establishing clear, merit-based criteria; conducting fair and consistent evaluations of all candidates; and prioritizing individuals with demonstrated integrity, relevant experience, and a strong record of public service. Engaging with community stakeholders and considering local needs and perspectives helps ensure the appointee reflects and represents the district effectively.
