I support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly. When a vacancy occurs, the Central Committee should act promptly to fill it. Appointees should serve only until the next regular or special election when affected constituents can elect a replacement. The voice of the people must prevail in the selection of their political leaders.
When looking to fill a vacancy in the Maryland General Assembly, I would prioritize proven leadership abilities, integrity, high moral character and a demonstrated commitment to community service and improving the lives of others. It is also important that appointees possess the willingness and ability to work with others to resolve difficult issues without compromising core values. I would look for these qualities in any potential appointee.
I want to serve on the Central Committee to advocate for meaningful changes in my community. Like many of my neighbors, I am concerned about over development, juvenile crime, burdensome HOA rules, rising energy costs and the proposed Chesapeake Terrace Rubble Landfill that will negatively impact us. As a member of the Central Committee, I will consistently use my voice to keep these issues front and center. I am committed to doing the hard work that matters to bring about desired changes.
By rigorously evaluating a potential appointee’s track record of community service when considering him or her to fill a vacancy in the General Assembly. Their actions must align with their rhetoric. They must also demonstrate a willingness and ability to lead in good and bad times, the courage to stand on conviction against tough opposition, and the ability to work with others to resolve difficult issues while maintaining core values.
