Data centers should undergo a rigorous permitting process for siting. They should bring their own power, so as to not increase costs for ratepayers. If they cannot bring their own power, they should pay a differential rate so that they--never ratepayers--bear the costs of their own electricity usage.
In the State Senate, affordability is my #1 priority. We are taking on greedy power monopolies head-on, including policies that lower costs for consumers. For example, I recently voted for legislation that would ban power company executives from billing their bonuses to everyday ratepayers.
I strongly support a both/and approach to investing in our infrastructure. We can and must invest in our Metro system to keep it safe, clean, and reliable. We must also ensure we're investing in our roads and bridges. This has been a tough winter, so we must show voters we can engage in basic government functions like filling potholes and fixing damaged roads.
My top three budget priorities: 1) Investing in affordability and lowering costs for everyday Marylanders. 2) Growing our economy so we can provide jobs and continue to invest in the programs we care about. 3) Utilizing our budget to push back on the lawless federal administration. We must protect our federal workers, as well as the most vulnerable who have been harmed by recent draconian cuts.
I am a strong supporter of Maryland's immigrant community. It's time we all band together and fight back against this lawless Trump Administration. Just this session, I was proud to help lead the charge to ban 287(g) agreements with ICE--which previously deputized local law enforcement to become an arm of ICE.
