I support data centers only with strong environmental guardrails. Maryland must require energy efficiency standards, renewable power commitments, and water conservation measures before approving new facilities. Economic development cannot come at the expense of grid reliability or environmental sustainability. Responsible policies and community benefit agreements should be prerequisites, not afterthoughts.
Rising utility costs stem from aging infrastructure, insufficient grid investment, and inadequate renewable energy transition planning. I will push for stronger Public Service Commission oversight, expand utility assistance programs for low-income households, and hold utilities accountable through transparent rate review processes.
Absolutely. Reliable public transit reduces congestion, lowers emissions, and expands economic opportunity for working Marylanders who cannot afford cars. I will advocate for sustained Maryland Transit Administration funding, improved rural transit connectivity, and transit-oriented development, ensuring transportation equity reaches every corner of Maryland, not just higher-income corridors.
My top three priorities are education funding equity, healthcare access, and workforce development. I will fight to protect Blueprint for Maryland's Future implementation, continue to provide expanded Medicaid coverage, and invest in various job training programs throughout the state.
I will champion legislation protecting immigrant communities from unjust deportation, expand access to legal services, and ensure language access in state agencies. I support driver's licenses for undocumented residents, oppose local law enforcement acting as federal immigration agents, and support in-state tuition access. Immigrants strengthen Maryland, and our policies must be reflective.

I think that handled responsibly, allowing a controlled number of data centers in Maryland can be a win-win. We can get the economic benefits including property tax revenue and new jobs, while placing environmental restrictions (e.g. the size, the type of energy they bring, the amount of water used, etc.), and ensuring we place them strategically such as current brownfield sites and avoiding areas that would add to already overburdened communities.
Demand from data centers, price forecasting by utility companies, and higher capacity charges to ensure grid reliability are significant contributors to escalating costs. While most regulation of utility costs is at the federal and regional levels, the General Assembly has worked to bring down costs through: rebates, reducing the EmPOWER surcharge, requiring data centers to pay for their energy infrastructure upgrades, pausing forecasting for a year, and boosting solar.
The availability of public transportation should absolutely be improved across the state. Public transportation is environmentally friendly and cost-effective and can help in reducing traffic. Transportation is the largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in Maryland so reducing single occupancy vehicles on our roads will have a tremendous impact on our environment. I am a member of the General Assembly’s Transit Caucus, where we work on legislation that will help public transit.
My three top budget priorities are: public schools, supporting our DDA community, and continuing our environmental commitment. Of course, there are many other important items in our budget, including transportation, health care, local projects, the arts, public safety, and more. I chose the three I mentioned, because they are the ones that I hear the most about from my constituents. And, as their voice in Annapolis, it is my job to advocate for their priorities.
This session, I supported the following bills: ending 287(g) agreements; the Community Trust Act; prohibiting law enforcement from covering their face and requiring them to wear identification while on duty; enabling individuals to sue federal agents for violating their constitutional rights; and expanding our online data privacy law to prohibit companies from selling data to immigration agencies. I also sponsored a bill that would have required state law enforcement to document all ICE activity
