I have been a vocal proponent of ensuring smart growth in Frederick County. We have not yet learned the full scale impacts of data centers and I have taken the stance to freeze any new data centers in the overlay until we learn the full impacts to our community. I would also like to see a "lockbox" established by County Executive to ensure that a set percentage of tax revenues towards Frederick County School construction, as we have many schools in need of repair or replacement.
Unfortunately, Maryland's move from coal fire energy plants and mandated closures by 2027, without having an adequate and sufficient replacement, has added significant strain to our grid and energy costs. We must take action now to move towards clean natural gas conversions for these old coal fire plants to create new energy opportunities and less strain on our grid, but even that is a 2-3 year project as Marylander's continue to grapple with these rising costs.

I signed the Data Center referendum and I support the legislation that requires a statewide study of the costs and benefits of data centers. Why? Because we need to better understand the full costs that data centers will have on our natural resources, public safety, public health, along with its impact on local taxes, energy bills, new fire equipment, training first responders, pollution monitoring, and road repairs and maintenance before we consider expanding data centers in the state.
Contributors to increased utility costs are data center construction, outdated electrical grids, loss of funding for alternative energy sources, and federal tariffs affecting the price of gas, oil, and electricity. We can reduce energy costs by streamlining the upgrades to existing transmission infrastructure, use advanced transmission technologies and existing rights-of-way, and support local energy solutions, including solar and energy storage.
Yes, we should be investing in public transportation by improving existing and building new infrastructure, and increasing the availability of trains, buses, and metro. I would also encourage greater access to the rural areas of Maryland, allowing for greater flexibility in workforce mobility and local economic development.
Budget Priorities; 1. Lower state taxes for everyday people. Maryland needs to find more diverse revenue options and require everyone to pay their fair share - especially corporations. 2. Livable wages for state employees and teachers. 3. Secure healthcare for all state residents. Program will fight for: 1. State bonds for district 4 capital projects 2. Land and rural preservation programs 3. Lower energy costs 4. Equality under the law for everyone 5. School funding options.
Right now our immigration laws are not being applied in an equal, fair, or moral way, and ICE, specifically, acts like they are above the law. This needs to stop. All law enforcement personnel need to abide by the law, identify themselves, state why they are arresting someone, and provide Miranda rights. Above all, stop violating our laws by arresting people based on skin color, accent, food they are eating, or where they live. No government agency gets to choose who has Constitutional rights.
