We should use any county resources such as environmental health programs that include food inspections, public pool safety and smoke free areas, disease prevention which involves screenings for cancer, diabetes, heart disease and HIV/AIDS, substance use resources which includes cannabis and tobacco prevention programs, and maternal and child health services that provide home visiting for newborns. We can adopt healthy life style practices by joining fitness programs, getting regular free health screenings, and utilize programs that focus on health and nutrition. The Local Health and Improvement Coalition is open to the public. There is access to healthcare and support which offers transportation and telehealth services.

I believe through the years the experiences I have gained serving on different boards and organizations has helped prepare me for this position as county commissioner. I have worked diligently with our local WCEA Union. This has allowed me to gain a wealth of knowledge in different areas such as : bargaining and negotiating teachers contracts and policies, budgeting, organizing and collaborating with in the school system and outside agencies, while maintaining leadership on the Board of Directors. I have been able to participate in county council meetings and school board meetings. I have attended numerous leadership conferences. I feel that I can meet the demands of serving as a county commissioner.
I know that Worcester County create policies that are designed to maintain its rural and coastal character and concentrating on growth in specific areas served by public infrastructure. These policies are guided by the Worcester County Comprehensive Plan. This plan includes: zoning and development controls, and natural resource protection programs. The plan is important because it moves beyond daily administrative tasks to establish long -term vision and goals for the community's future. It also helps to account for changing demographics and infrastructure needs. The county is in great need of more diverse and affordable housing options. This has become a concern for students and workforce residents.
The county government should try to foster year round employment with higher wages and provide housing for those that move from other areas to gain employment. We must continue to support existing business expansions and small businesses. We can partner with educational institutions to align vocational education with the needs of local employers, especially for technical skills. Higher wages would also attract and retain young workers. It would be wise to invest in apprenticeships.
Increasing affordable housing could include: rehabilitation and preserving existing units, improving financial assistance for housing and include vouchers, and new construction incentives. This is included in the Worcester County Comprehensive Plan. Working with local employers to identify the specific housing needs of the workforce would also be an asset.
