My professional experience combines policy making, coalition building, grassroots networking, and community focus, as well as my personal experience having lived and grown up in the district. I have worked on Capitol Hill, leading legislative work for two distinguished members of the Untied States Congress. I served as an appointee to the Prince George's County Police Accountability Board. I am the executive director of my non-profit organization, the Young Latinos Leadership Council. These experiences at a federal and local level, combined with my passion and dedication to public service are why I will effectively and efficiently execute the responsibilities of this office.
To fully fund PGCPS and the commitment and promise of the Blueprint for Maryland's Future.
To ensure seniors have access to affordable living options, tax credits, and other programs to support aging in place in Prince George's County.
To ensure small businesses have the support from the County to navigate an evolving and complicated economic landscape.
To prioritize clean energy and incentivize participating in sustainability focused practices.
When we talk about development, we need to talk about sustainability as well. My priority is to bring the community and relevant stakeholders to the table, so we can create policies that benefit the health and lives of the residents of Prince George's County. That looks like investing in energy efficiency, incentivizing small businesses and organizations to engage in climate conscious practices, holding big businesses accountable to keeping our environment clean, and making sure as a County we protect our green spaces.
As a Councilmember, I will work closely with our School Board, and School Board Member, to ensure that the budget allocates the resources necessary to improve PGCPS for our students and families, and also support their initiatives and programs to benefit our young people.
As the County Council also serves as the Board of Health for Prince George's County, it's critical that councilmembers are prepared for that responsibility. Prioritizing public health means supporting the health care workforce, and investing in the necessary infrastructure to respond to public health emergencies, and allocating the necessary resources to support our health care agency and workers before disaster strikes.
Property taxes have been a concern for families in Prince George’s County for decades. We need to provide relief to families in need, and as a member of the Prince George’s County Council, I will focus on responsible budgeting and identifying wasteful spending so taxpayer dollars are used effectively. I will also support targeted tax relief for seniors, long-time homeowners, first-time homebuyers, and residents on fixed incomes who are most affected by rising assessments. Finally, by attracting new businesses and supporting smart development, we can expand the county’s tax base and reduce the burden on homeowners overall.
Local economies thrive when small businesses thrive. Making the County friendly to small businesses by cutting through red tape, helping them get established faster and provide room to grow in the County, while incentivizing hiring, purchasing, and selling locally, creates an environment that benefits residents, businesses, and the County.
I would support increasing the number of affordable housing units, increased investment in the Housing Investment Trust Fund, and investment in robust first-time home buyer programs in the County. The County also has a responsibility to care for all of its residents, including the unhoused. We need to invest in the services we have for unhoused persons, by creating and supporting a fully staffed department in the County dedicated to addressing this issue.
My priorities are 1) affordability and housing security; 2) investing in student success and education; 3) protecting our immigrant neighbors and community.
