I am ready to tackle the range of policy issues before the Council and to work across the state and region to achieve our goals. I grew up in D1, served in the D1 Councilmember’s office, and have worked in the private sector and at the state level. I know the importance of responsive constituent service. I’ve also managed multi-billion dollar budgets and driven policy change on transit, workforce and economic development, housing, and the environment.
I believe in building housing in the right places and better leveraging the resources available to us. Existing sites like the White Flint Mall are ripe for redevelopment to ensure we grow without causing county residents unnecessary growing pains. I will reform how Low-Income Housing Tax Credits are administered in Maryland, so Montgomery County can implement more projects to create affordable housing. I will leverage publicly and non-profit owned land to make more projects possible.
In this year’s budget, I oppose raising taxes and fees. It is not the time to make it more expensive for families and retirees to live here. I will work to drive economic growth to support investments and efficiency in County government to do more with less.
As we rebuild our base, I will work to enhance funding for where we’ve fallen behind: early childhood education and workforce training; transportation, park, and community infrastructure; senior programming; and clean energy initiatives.
I support universal pre-K because quality early childhood education prepares young people for school and sets the foundation for a successful life. I will work to help more families access childcare subsidies. We should restore the County’s full Working Families Income Supplement - resources that go directly to support those in need in achieving self-sufficiency. We must also focus in particular on providing services and aid to our immigrant community in this challenging time.
I support expanding civilian positions in the Police Department so officers on the street can focus on public safety amid significant staffing shortages, and in order to reduce emergency response times. I will support our combined volunteer-career fire and emergency system because it provides significant advantages. I support restoring School Resource Officers to high schools on a full-time basis. These highly-trained professionals build positive relationships with students and prevent violence.

I bring 15+ years of experience in the Montgomery County Council and Executive Branch where I now serve as Special Assistant to County Executive Marc Elrich. I’ve worked on raising the minimum wage, tenant protection, land use, banning gas-powered leaf blowers and cosmetic pesticides, and County budgets. I know how to turn residents’ concerns into effective policy. I have been endorsed by Sierra Club, CASA In Action, former MD Attorney General Brian Frosh and former Treasurer Nancy Kopp.
I will focus on preserving and producing affordable housing. Trickle-down economics of simply building more housing will not address affordability, and in some cases threatens existing affordable housing. I support strengthening the MPDU program and using public resources wisely - including tax incentives and public property - to deliver a high percentage of affordability in production of new housing. I also support down-payment assistance for home ownership, which helps build wealth.
I will prioritize funding for education, affordable housing, and environmental protection while ensuring public dollars are spent responsibly. I will support incubators, which are targeted government investment in job and business growth. Also, development should contribute fairly to fund the infrastructure that it requires. I will work to eliminate duplication between county agencies and the independent Planning agency, which wastes resources in both the public and private sector.
A strong safety net helps keep families stable, which is critical for our schools and workforce. I support affordable housing efforts, food assistance, and health services, including dental. I support the “SHaRP” program focused on long-term housing solutions. As shown during Covid, working with community partners enhances outreach and increases trust. The county must ensure services are accessible, culturally competent, and available to residents regardless of income or background.
Public safety requires both effective policing and strong community investments. I support community policing, accountability, and ensuring first responders have the resources they need, including good pay and crisis intervention teams. I support using technology to help our officers, including drones as first responders, with the appropriate privacy protections. I also support prevention, including youth programs, mental health services, and stable housing which address root causes of crime.

My background is rooted in engineering, technology, and business leadership. Over the course of more than 30 years as a business owner, I have built organizations, managed budgets, met payrolls, and navigated tough economic challenges. Running a business requires discipline, accountability, and the ability to solve problems quickly and effectively. Those same skills are essential in government, and I believe my experience gives me a perspective that is currently missing on the County Council.
I support smart rezoning and increased housing near Metro stations. By partnering with Metro, we can convert underused surface parking lots into high-rise housing that brings residents closer to transit.
I also support reforming county mandates to make affordable housing easier and more cost-effective to build.
Finally, I champion “Guardian Housing” initiatives that help provide housing for our first responders.
County spending is out of control, and we must take a closer look at where our money is going. During our review of County finances, we found more than 50,000 disbursements to “ghost vendors,” totaling over $320 million.
We should consider:
• Using AI to identify and eliminate redundant and costly regulations
• Eliminating vacant positions rather than cutting essential services
• Consolidating overlapping departments
• Optimizing and improving the bus system
• Replacing local green mandates
I believe that when residents fall on hard times, the community should be there to help them get back on their feet. I support maintaining a strong safety net delivered efficiently, responsibly, and in a way that reaches residents in every part of the County.
• Focus on making existing services easier to access and better coordinated.
• Foster strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations, faith communities, and local healthcare providers.
Public safety starts with a simple promise: everyone in Montgomery County deserves to feel safe in their neighborhood, their schools, houses of worship, and public spaces.
I support a comprehensive approach to public safety that combines effective policing with prevention and community partnership. That means ensuring our police department has the funding, staffing, technology, and training needed to respond quickly to crime while also strengthening transparency and accountability.

I am many things: a parent, an educator, an immigrant, a community activist, and a long-time MoCo homeowner. My most visible role is as a tested and trusted elected leader on the Board of Education. With fiscal responsibility for half of the county’s budget, I have governed at scale, navigating tough challenges and delivering results. My most important role is to listen, defend our values, uplift our communities, and fiercely advocate for a thriving future full of opportunities.
I grew up in a house without running water and rented for years. I know firsthand that an affordable home allows families to learn, work, and live in stability. We should increase housing near transit and commercial corridors, strengthen MPDU offers, and streamline the permitting process. Smart infrastructure planning can add units while preserving the feel of our neighborhoods. As President, I led the transition of underutilized land, such as the Stone Street site, to be used for housing.
My American dream started with 2 suitcases and very little money, so I know the importance of economic opportunities and an education that meets the workforce of the future. As an educator, I want to continue to strengthen our schools while investing in biotech, cybersecurity, quantum computing, and skilled trades to develop those jobs here. We spend less than $10 per resident on economic development and it’s not enough. We can do better to grow our tax base before defaulting to higher taxes.
Montgomery County already has strong safety-net programs that we should continue to expand and improve upon. For example, the Rapid Rehousing program helped 690 households exit homelessness, with 67% moving to permanent housing and participants increasing their income by 22%. More than 66,000 residents still rely on SNAP food assistance. I support expanding housing stability programs and workforce training, so families can stay housed, access food, and build long-term economic security.
Although violent crimes have returned to pre-pandemic levels, non-violent crimes have not. To ensure our communities are as safe as possible, we need everyone to play their part in prevention and accountability. Strong communities with trusted law enforcement officers, who reflect their neighborhoods, improve public safety. Additionally, I support expanding behavioral-health crisis response teams and investing in youth engagement and after-school programs, so we can deter potential problems.
