Biographical Information

MOTIVATION & QUALIFICATIONS: Why are you seeking a seat on the Board of Education? What skills, experiences, and perspectives will you bring to the role?

ROLES: What do you see as the role of parents, teachers, and Board members in the educational system in our County? How will you ensure transparency and resolve disputes?

STAFFING & RETENTION: What actions will you take to support educational staff, including policies related to recruitment, hiring, and retention of staff?

TECHNOLOGY: What is your position on the use of technology as an educational tool? Also, what is your position on the presence and use of students' personal electronic devices in school?

I am seeking a position on the BOE to serve as a voice for the community when making decisions that best serve our students, staff, and families. HCPS students represent our future and we have an obligation to provide them with a safe and supportive environment that sets them up for success.
Working with the assumption we all have a shared goal of student success, parent/guardian engagement and input should be welcomed by the BOE. Open communication between parents and the district should be prioritized and promoted. When the school system, parents/guardians, and the community work together, students win.
We need to create an environment where our employees feel valued and respected. To accomplish this task we need to maintain competitive salary/benefit plans, a safe and healthy work environment, appropriate supportive resources, and a management structure that understands the need to work with our employees not just manage them. The best summary I can offer is we need to build a workplace where each of our current employees is seen as a recruiter even if they don’t hold the official title.
In the modern world we have to embrace technology but also be aware of its ability to be disruptive. The days of using a chalkboard and maybe even a dry erase board are things of the past. However, when it comes to the student’s personal devices having no use or benefit to the learning environment I believe the school system must regulate their usage. However, any discipline for violations must be clearly understood and openly communicated with parents and guardians.

My number one reason for seeking a seat on the Harford County Board of Education (BOE) is simple: our students deserve better. Since the 1990s, I have mentored youth, developed youth programs, and served as a public service advocate in our community. I will work with parents, teachers, and school leaders to address the needs of District F schools and advocate for solutions that strengthen staffing, support educators, and help every student succeed.
I believe parents, teachers, and the Board of Education members share responsibility for student success. Parents should be informed, engaged, and empowered to advocate for their children. Teachers should be supported and equipped to provide quality education and able to communicate what is needed to do so. BOE members must be accessible, engaged, transparent, and committed to representing the voices of both. Working together ensures decisions are made in the best interest of our students.
Our schools are underfunded and understaffed; this is the reality. As a Board member, I will advocate for competitive salaries and full funding to recruit and retain educators. At the same time, families and teachers need support now. I will work with school leaders, community partners, and local organizations to develop strategies that strengthen staffing support, provide resources for educators and families, and help ensure teachers have the support they need for our students to succeed.
Technology can be a valuable tool to support learning and foster student engagement. I believe its use in the classroom should be a teacher-driven option and supported by clear policies. Parents and students should be informed of expectations for responsible use. The use of personal electronic devices should follow clear guidelines that limit distractions while still allowing technology to enhance instruction when appropriate.
