I am seeking a seat on the board to help bring back a focus to education improvement. For too long our district has been inundated with political discourse. We should not be politicizing our childrens education. A budget focused on educational improvement should be presented and held firm against the county executive. I bring 20+ years of project management and budget management experience. I also bring years of policy and standardization processes with an emphasis on lean processing.
Parents and teachers should be equal partners in our educational system. The board should be helping the needs of the parents and teachers become a reality. Parents should have a clear understanding of what is happening in our schools and how the board is working to correct any issues. The board should have more transparency, every 2 weeks I sit in on the meeting and hear citizens speak or board members speak but we never have a 2 way dialogue. I hope to bring more of that.
I will not only push for a fully funded school system in accordance with the maryland blueprint, I will push to exceed that and I consider the blueprint as the "bare minimum" our district should be doing to help our students. Quality teacher recruitment and retention should not be "skimped on". There are countless studies that show increasing teacher pay is directly linked to improving education quality by attracting and retaining high-quality educators.
I believe that technology has a place in school but should not be the primary learning method. It should be used as a supplement to help our children. I am not a fan of personal electronic devices in school. I know for myself, as a person with ADHD, whenever I have my device on or nearby, I feel a compulsion to look at it, or wonder what I might be missing out on. That leads to distraction from learning and lack of engagement.

A product of Harford County Public Schools, I graduated from Fallston High in 1995. I taught for 7 years at Edgewood High and spent the next 17 years as an administrator in Baltimore City Schools, including 3 years as a PreK-8 principal. Over 24 years in education, I completed the New Leaders for New Schools program and visited districts nationwide. I also served as a Commissioner on Hispanic Affairs for Governor Hogan. After a recent career change, I’m eager to volunteer my experience to HCPS
A school system must balance the voices and needs of many stakeholders. Parents seek safe schools and strong opportunities for their children to thrive, while teachers share that commitment as they navigate the demands of their profession. Board members must represent the entire community—including taxpayers with and without children—while thoughtfully considering the perspectives of families, educators, and administrators. The Board safeguards the values of the community it serves
Competitive salaries are an important part of recruitment and retention, but they are not the only factor. School systems can also strengthen their workforce by investing in meaningful professional development, creating clear opportunities for advancement, maintaining fair and consistent discipline practices, and improving candidate screening to ensure the right people are entering the profession. Together, these elements help build a supportive environment where educators feel valued
Technology is not something schools can avoid—it is a powerful tool for illustrating concepts, supporting problem-solving, fostering creativity, and helping bridge gaps for students with disabilities or emerging language learners. At the same time, schools must follow research and be mindful of limiting unnecessary screen time. Technology should be used thoughtfully, when it truly enhances learning. Cell phones, however, often create significant disruptions and can even raise safety concerns
