DUTIES: The Clerk of the Circuit Court oversees the office that performs many administrative duties for the Circuit Court including the maintenance of court records. Other duties include recording of deeds and collecting taxes and fees based on property transactions, issuing licenses for fishing, hunting, sales of liquor and marriage. They also perform civil wedding ceremonies and process passport applications. SALARY: $113,000 TERM: Four years, no term limit. HOW ELECTED: Elected countywide.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: What specific steps will you take to improve efficiency in the Clerk's office, at the same time ensuring quality and timely service to the public?
I have been the Clerk of Court for Harford County since being elected in 2022. The first woman elected to this position in Harford County’s history. I am currently the President of the Maryland Clerks’ Association working with the Clerks from across the State of Maryland to introduce improvements to local business practices associated with the work we do in our offices. My team is 53 people strong, 52 deputy clerks and 1 appointed Chief Deputy. We support those we serve with respect.
The biggest challenge we face within our Office is dealing with the amount of change required due to new legislation, system enhancements and social forces. We deal with this by staying engaged with the Administrative Office of the Courts and our community partners. We also focus on collaboration and technology to help
streamline business processes.
One of the steps we have taken to improve efficiency and customer service is by hiring staff that are skilled in more than one language. This allows us to assist customers directly without having to use tools such as a language line.
