DUTIES: The state's attorney is the chief prosecutor for the county, representing the State in District Court and Circuit Court proceedings. The state's attorney works with local law enforcement agencies to evaluate evidence, to decide whether or not to bring charges against suspects, negotiate plea bargains, and try cases before juries or judges. The States Attorney also ensures that victims and witnesses are supported.TERM: Four-year termSALARY: $188,777 (statutorily set with annual increase equal to the average increment and salary adjustment of Frederick County employees.HOW ELECTED: County-wide
