I've been a Judge for a while. I've learned to detect the undertone of these delicate Family times. The Passing of a Family member can create a strain on the Family dynamics; which means they need to be handled with finesse while acting within the Maryland Probate Guidelines.
Maryland has changed some of there Probate Laws. I keep up with the new material through Continuing Education.
There are some in Annapolis who would like to eliminate the Orphans Court. This would create great challenges for Families who are trying to settle their Estates. It would DELAY a prompt settlement if Estates are incorporated into other Courts Agendas.
Calvert County's Orphans Court can Brag on how quickly we are able to settle an Estate. We work perfectly with the Registry of Wills Office, which assures all Families have access to professional assistance.
I have substantial experience as an Orphans' Court Judge, to include:
-12 years on the bench;
-Selected by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland to be the only Orphans' Court Judge in Maryland to serve on the Maryland Judicial Ethics Committee;
-30 Years Lawyer in Prince Frederick.
Continue to execute the duties of the Judgeship with legal excellence, adherence to the Rules, Statutes, and law governing our Court with impartiality.
The Orphans' Court is Maryland's Probate Court. At the end of the day, money and property change hands. The Court sees far too many people come to Orphans' Court without legal counsel. I will continue to encourage these individuals to seek competent Estate Counsel to assist them with this important process.

I served in the U.S. Army Reserves and later as an Assistant State’s Attorney representing the people of our community in court. Today I own and manage a law practice in Prince Frederick where I serve as a trial attorney representing individuals and families across Southern Maryland. My work includes preparing wills, advising clients on estate planning, and appearing in court to resolve legal disputes. This experience prepares me to apply the law carefully and fairly on the Orphans’ Court.
My priority is ensuring the Orphans’ Court serves families with fairness, clarity, and efficiency. The court oversees wills, estates, and guardianships and must ensure the law is followed while families are treated with dignity. I will focus on careful legal decision making, efficient administration of estates, and protecting the rights of heirs, beneficiaries, and minors while maintaining public confidence in the probate process.
A key challenge facing the Orphans’ Court is helping families navigate probate matters during periods of grief while ensuring legal requirements are properly followed. Probate law can be complex, and families often come to court during difficult moments. The court must provide clear proceedings, thoughtful decisions, and careful application of the law so estates are handled fairly and efficiently.
