I do not support special elections to fill vacancies in the General Assembly. In order to quickly fill the position, I believe appointment by the party Central Committee is the most efficient way. A special election will add extra expenses for budgets that are already stretched. Most special elections are also poorly attended. This special circumstance is best handled by the individuals trusted to handle the matter when they were elected to serve on the Central Committee.
The individual selected to fill the vacancy should have strong integrity to represent the needs and wants of their jurisdiction. Looking for individuals that align with the values of the Republican party would be the priority. The person should be an excellent communicator that also appears electable. With Maryland being mostly Democratic, the individual will need to find creative ways to get their priorities funded.
During my career as a federal law enforcement officer, I was not able to have any political activity. I sat on the sideline for years frustrated with how Maryland is run. After retiring, I decided it was time to see if there is any way I can make a difference. With little experience in fundraising and campaigning, the Central Committee seemed like an excellent place to start. Hoping to use my skills to advance the Republican party in Maryland.
The process would start for me with the person for which we were filling the vacant position. Looking at their views and stances would be most importance. My hope would be to make sure the person filling the vacant position aligned with the originally elected individual.
No it would be too long of a process and there would be no representation for the district.
I would look for the person that had the best interest of people in this district as the priority.
To help work to better the party as well as shape our district’s future.
During the interview process I will ask pointed questions to make sure the person has their priorities for the people.
