50 years of single party rule in Baltimore has led to wholesale disengagement and disillusionment with the political process and nonsense from the ruling party. For example, the DCC requires states “No more than half of the members can be elected from the same gender.” What does it even mean? It will likely take years to restore proper checks and balance in the state political system. In the meantime, I will support any change that tends to restore the power of voters to decide our own fate.
A delegate’s job is to create laws and the most important qualities in a lawmaker are wisdom and humility. Every new law changes what real people will do in the real world. Too many of our legislators can only imagine a law’s influence on people like themselves. Or they favor what seems compassionate without recognizing how they’re changing incentives and tendencies of the whole population.
I was appointed in 2023 to the BCRCC and seek a full term. I am a computer programmer and a small business owner creating apps for healthcare organizations to analyze how to provide higher quality service. On the committee, I help with the same things: data, communications and anything technical. I am not a door-knocker, and certainly not charismatic. We need a strong Republican party to keep the city leaders accountable and I can help build the party engagement to get there.
This is somewhat moot since I’m running for the Republican Central Committee. If we’re ever called upon to fulfill this duty, the goal is to meet with the candidates, listen and ask many questions. How well do you know the community you want to represent? What are the problems they really want solved? Are you able to think deeply about a broad range of issues and foresee the unintended consequences? Are you a servant or an egoist who is just looking for the next step on the ladder?
