Having lived in La Crosse County for more than 30 years, I’ve built strong ties here and developed a deep appreciation for the people and communities that make the Coulee Region unique. Growing up in a small town like Whitehall, Wisconsin taught me the importance of commitment, responsibility, and service to others. From a young age, my parents emphasized duty to family, community, and country and those values later guided my service in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. My years working with local youth programs including, as the President of Holmen Youth Baseball for 8 years and serving on the Town of Holland Park & Recreation Committee have given me a practical understanding of how bringing people together can and solve problems constructively. With my experience, personally and professionally, I believe I offer a fresh and original viewpoint and I'm ready to contribute a thoughtful, community‑minded perspective to the work ahead.
I would like to see increased investment in green spaces and recreational areas across the county. Our youth need safe environments to play and explore, away from screens, fostering both physical health and social interaction. Additionally, resources directed toward senior and veteran support programs are crucial. These resources would ensure that our elders and those who have served our country are respected, engaged, and well-cared for within our community.
1. Sustainable Development: Having traveled across the country, I can say without hesitation that we live in one of the most beautiful places anywhere. Whether you hunt, fish, hike, bike, or simply enjoy being outdoors, it’s clear that our natural "wealth" is a defining part of our quality of life. That’s why I believe it’s essential to balance growth with responsible environmental stewardship. As our communities continue to develop, we need to ensure that progress never comes at the expense of the natural resources that make this place so special. 2. Community Health and Wellbeing: Access to healthcare, mental health services, and support for vulnerable populations, including seniors and veterans, remains a pressing concern. When people struggle to find affordable care, or when mental health needs go unmet, the effects ripple far beyond the individual, they influence the entire community and broader social fabric. That’s why community health is more than just a medical issue.
To tackle sustainable development, I would advocate for comprehensive planning that includes community input and environmental assessments. By working closely with local environmental groups and community planners, we can develop strategies that support growth while preserving the beauty and health of our natural surroundings. For community health and wellbeing, I propose enhancing collaboration between county health services, national health services, like the Veterans Administration and non-profits, like La Crosse Area Community Foundation to focus on accessibility and outreach. This involves expanding programs that provide mental health support and ensuring our seniors and veterans have the resources they need for a dignified life.
