The most important issue is updating the Comprehensive Plan. This plan will affect all of the long-term matters that come before the Board. This plan will advise the Board in addressing "growth, development, and the overall well-being of the community over the next 20 years", according to the Dunn County website . Such issues as zoning, industrial development, highways, housing, and community services will be guided by the Comprehensive Plan. I aspire to be appointed to the Planning, Resources & Development Committee where I could contribute to completion of this update.
Housing is the issue that has been constraining residents, businesses, and economic growth in general. With Dunn County receiving a grant to address housing throughout the county, the development-friendly municipalities initiative will assist rural communities to adopt housing suited to them. As supervisor of a rural district, I would encourage outreach to villages and feedback on how the County might enhance the effort to develop affordable housing in these areas.
Affordable quality childcare is nearly impossible to find. I would explore models of community-assisted childcare. Quality child
care is expensive. Well-trained professional caregivers deserve a
living wage and our children deserve a caring, stabile, and
intellectually stimulating environment. After all, children are our
most precious resource. However, families struggle to afford high
quality childcare and sometimes have only less desirable choices,
while in-home care providers and daycare centers struggle to pay
staff. I believe that there are creative solutions that will be
affordable and beneficial to our county. I want to bring stakeholders together to solve this conundrum.
Health care and child care are the two areas of concern that I have that are not addressed in the budget. I would look for grant and collaboration opportunities to address these needs without additional taxes.
