My husband grew up in Kaukauna, and we've proudly called it home for eleven years. With three children across the district, I'm deeply invested in KASD's success. My involvement as a former Parent School Committee member and current Governance Council member at NDLC has prepared me well for this role. I'm running to support a fiscally responsible district, empower staff, and ensure every student has the opportunity to thrive and strengthen our community.
Attracting and retaining great teachers starts with culture. Competitive pay matters, but educators also want to feel valued, heard, and empowered. I propose fostering an environment where staff have a genuine voice in shaping their workplace, are included in problem-solving and continuous improvement, and benefit from meaningful professional development. Transparency in decision-making builds trust. A high-performing, growth-oriented culture doesn't retain great teachers - it attracts them.
Effective curriculum development requires collaboration, diverse input, and continuous evaluation. I believe curricula should equip students with critical thinking, adaptability, and a growth mindset - preparing them to consider multiple perspectives and make informed decisions. Curricula should also reflect diverse learning styles and ensure equitable access for all students. When students are exposed to varied experiences, they become well-rounded, compassionate contributors to our community.
KASD has made impressive strides in staff engagement, continuous improvement, and student success - reflecting a dedicated team committed to growth. Community input is valued and commendable. Areas of opportunity include enhancing transparency in decision-making and striking the right balance between state testing requirements and meaningful, transferable skills that prepare students for an ever-evolving world. Collaborative approaches that bring diverse voices to the table will address both.
As a board member, my role is to ensure decisions are informed, transparent, and considerate of diverse perspectives. By nature I am curious and an active listener - I ask questions, seek understanding, and believe clear reasoning behind decisions builds trust even when we don't all agree. I am committed to engage with district challenges and initiatives. My professional background in construction positions me to support the oversight of the middle school project - a major community investment.
